We started this week! It seems the other sections in my office also started this week. All except the old timers who are digging their heels in the f***ing work shy c***s! Why would you call your 'old timers' ...... f***ing work shy c***s... just because they are trying to stand up?Patrick Clifton wrote:We started this week! Or are you just happy that you have lapsing.
Be careful what you wish for.

By 'old timers' I dont mean in age, I mean in service. I use the term because they are lazy! Plain and simple. They have been in the job for too long and getting away with murder for too long.hampshireman wrote:Why would you call your 'old timers' ...... f***ing work shy c***s... just because they are trying to stand up?Patrick Clifton wrote:We started this week! Re: summer lapsing
Either there is the time to lapse or there isn't. If some people claim they do not have time to lapse when they actually do then they just make more work for their colleagues. In which case they are workshy c***s.hampshireman wrote:Why would you call your 'old timers' ...... f***ing work shy c***s... just because they are trying to stand up?
If there isn't spare capacity and the DOM has made it up using non-agreed standards - then well done to them for standing up.
Spare capacity for lapsing should be clearly explained. How it is calculated and who is doing it.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

If they are all lazy , in your opinion ; then fine that's your opinion (and may well be accurate).
But lapsing is not good for anyone. The reason it is done (and somewhat forced through) is that people accept it ; because they can still rush around , do their lapsing and still finish early.
Net result. More lapsing
Can you see a circle here?

Re: summer lapsing
Well put! This is exactly what I am talking about. These very people are the ones who do the least amount of IPS, when call backs are required to complete the IPS after everyone has done their scheduled, they make excuses and claim lack of time. But its not long after we have went round to finish the work that they come round to clear what has been sorted!? Sorry, but if you cant do any more work until the last of the IPS is done, lend a bloody hand then!clashcityrocker wrote: If some people claim they do not have time to lapse when they actually do then they just make more work for their colleagues. This same group are the ones that go about the DO like some gang of extras from Dawn of the Dead! Lets say that speed is not their strong point.
Not to mention the cuppies of tea, smoke breaks and standing in groups having conversations while all around them people are doing their damndest to get everything sorted ASAP.
I will say that not all of them fall into this group. There are a couple of the group that do their bit and lend a hand when their is extra work to be done. But the majority, as I said above, are f***ing work shy c***s!

But, the problem is with the local management. If these people are playing a game then they should be dealt with by the management!
You'll see it every day. Late on Ips; standing around etc , etc.

Re: summer lapsing
TBH I dont really have a problem with lapsing within reason. We are lapsing 1 job between a fairly large group, 15 or so. I think it is working out at around 30-40ish extra calls each. We are able to leave the delivery office as soon as possible, the van drivers have been informed that they need to be here and ready to get everyone conveyed ASAP.hampshireman wrote:

I try to view things from both perspectives. In jobs all over the UK, employees are entitled to holidays. I dont think there will be many employers keen to pay someone to be on holiday and also pay for a replacement while that person is on holiday. I think its commonly accepted that everyone 'mucks in,' within reason, and does a little extra during peak holiday times. If you are not happy about lapsing, just remember that when you take your summer holidays and people will be needed to cover your delivery.
Now if 3/4 of the sections within my office can manage to lapse without, that I have heard, much grumble, the 4th section should step upto the plate also! I know for a fact that my own section had little complaint regarding the lapsing when we were informed. Yes, we had concerns and problems and still do, but I think we all realised that a job was going to get lapsed regardless. We could have caused a scene and threw our toys from our prams or we could have discussed with all concerned any issues, shared ideas & concerns and decided what the best solution to try and keep most people happy, not effect our own or the lapsed job too much while still, at the end of the day, getting the mail delivered.

Re: summer lapsing
I agree totally! I am starting to realise that perhaps the lino's are keeping the DOM in the dark somewhat! All of this came-about after discussions with one of the, ummm im not entirely sure of the persons actual role but I will say, delivery support operatives?! Said 'Delivery Support Operative' was talking to us informally about a couple of issues, we raised concerns, 'DSO' then went and expressed concerns to DOM. Hence, ball rolling.hampshireman wrote: I think you have now clarified what you meant.

Re: summer lapsing
We started lapsing last week.
Was told simply this:
"Your doing 2 bundles on walk XXXX"
I asked what he meant he said:
" 2 bundles extra on walk XXXX"
I asked what bit i should do and manager said:
"pick any 2 bundles, if you dont get round there asap the best bits will have gone"
I said i couldnt fit it in. Manager said:
"Do the absorption first and cut off on your own walk"
I said ill have to leave 2 bags at the bag drop as i wont be able to bring them back as theyre too heavy. The absorption is 1.5 miles away from my delivery and will cut into my walk severely"
Manager changed his mind and said bring the absorption back if you cant fit it in.
Brought it back.
Oh and some people took out bundles that were only 5 or so letters big. Half the walk didnt go out as no one picked it up and half the lapsers brought it back.
Floater cut off on saturday.
Absorption working well here.

I do not have a major problem with lapsing within reason. When it is not within reason ; I do have a problem. I have done the lapsing both days this week because I could do it within my duty time. Again , no problem with that.
What I do object to is the almost bland statement that ' you all have spare time so that it's not a problem'. We don't always have 'spare time'.
If you do the job the set way. Then maybe you don't have time
I try to view things from both perspectives. In jobs all over the UK, employees are entitled to holidays. Point well made. But what are Reserves for? I spend most of my time as a reserve and cover holidays and sickness.
Now if 3/4 of the sections within my office can manage to lapse without, that I have heard, much grumble, the 4th section should step upto the plate also! I think the concern here was that ' a job was going to get lapsed regardless'
So, how does that work? Because they are going to do it regardless ; we should just accept it and 'find a solution'. How about saying that it is not acceptable.

Re: summer lapsing
Perhaps my use of 'a job was going to get lapsed regardless' should have been worded differently. We were told that we wouldn't be expected to lapse on busy days and it would not be a problem. However, when things were quieter and lapsing was possible, a job was going to be lapsed and everyone was expected to take their share.hampshireman wrote:
