Parcelforce shake up
Posted this in here because it does affect us.
Was talking to a PF dude today and he caught the back end of a meeting, seems PF want to double their profits this year(£17M),so they are going to take the large packets off of us.
Strangely they are also going to open up some of the depots they have closed down and are also going to have 2 more RDC's sorted out to deal with the influx.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: Parcelforce shake up
the problem for RM is you can get a courier to come and collect packages from your house for £8 item (up to 30KG)
tracked on a 24/48 hour service
you can get that as low as £5 depending on the company used!
so RM need to open up a service like RM tracked for all customers
recorded is worse than useless and hardly ever tracks
SD is just too pricey in comparison to the above prices
okay RM is king for smaller packets but as soon as the price goes over £5 you are heading into courier territory

They could axe recorded delivery and open up tracked to all customers, perhaps with business/bulk customers getting a discount (just like users of PPI & meter mail get a cheaper posting rate for 1C and 2C).custard wrote:the problem for RM is you can get a courier to come and collect packages from your house for £8 item (up to 30KG)

Do they plan on taking on/over Standard Parcels?

they either need to axe RD or make sure it worksSpacePhoenix wrote:They could axe recorded delivery and open up tracked to all customers, perhaps with business/bulk customers getting a discount (just like users of PPI & meter mail get a cheaper posting rate for 1C and 2C).custard wrote:the problem for RM is you can get a courier to come and collect packages from your house for £8 item (up to 30KG)

probably change it to a large letter max size product for legal documents
then they need ot get the message across,no staff to sign for items themselves and obtain a sig/P739 every item
standard compensation for a failed sig on an RD is a book of 1st class stamps
so for a 75p products you get £4.92 compensation! i know big eBay sellers who are claiming back over 60% of their RDs as having no signatures
thats £000's

Same here. The phone/broadband companies seem to have a particular love-in with throwing the tracked packets out at the moment.POSTMAN wrote:Tracked is going down or may have already to 2000 i think it is minimum per year to get a contract,at my place it has gone from 2-3 a day each drive to 20ish,the fecking things have gone mad.

its a good service because often sellers/companies are not fussed about next day delivery but do want tracking and a delivery confirmation

Re: Parcelforce shake up
re recordeds,i contacted ask.allen last year and suggested they changed the way we done recordeds, they could seperate them at PO's and at MC's and send them down to us seperate from normal mail.
Then they could be scanned in the same way that the reg is done and signed for by the posties, they said they would look into it as it was a 'good idea',but i fear they may have thought it was too much like reg and they would loose reg business because of it.
One way to get confidence back with the service is for the posties to actually do them, loads of peeps down my way don't bother getting them signed for!

exactly,it costs 75p so doesnt really deserve special treatment
all it needs is for posties to do their job
I banged on about this at the DO before
all this signing stuff or just 'shoving it through' has to stop
they may think they are doing the recipient a favour but they are risking their job and the senders are not getting what they paid for
they need ot step back
in my old DO we used to check the sigs on the cards, how many RD's,how many items handed back as P739 etc
of course with staff cuts all of these checks fell away
now nobody is checking these things

I docket up to 5 rec items a day (sometimes more) when the guy next to me never brings any back because he signes for everything himself.
Rows of houses all bearing down on me........I can feel their blue hands touching me.......All these things in all positions.........All these things will one day take control..........

Re: Parcelforce shake up
If Parcelforce are going after our large parcel business then maybe we could go after theirs
After all, we're going to have a lot more vans in the near future.

Re: Parcelforce shake up
If this is true, and something is definitely up at work at the moment (lots of management movement with the intention of shaking up the 'lesser performing depots') so I wouldn't be surprised, sounds like a parting gift to PF before finally selling us off - and in the process making RM letters just that bit more unprofitable.
Cynical and frankly robbery. But then thats RMG history for the last 20 years
