Criss crossing streets to deliver mail

How many of you do this procedure??

I know it's quicker but there is a few underlying issues with this one in terms of h&s....

We call it "backing" a street but obviously only do it where appropriate.

Can't see how it is quicker, more ground is being covered in all but extra-ordinary setups? May prevent dead walking. Get hit by a car while flick-checking though and you won't be dead walking anymore.

Depends on the Geography of the walk. Steep hills for instance are better done backed going down rather than walking back up on the other side even with a half full bag.

I am a bit confused are we talking walking from one side of the road to the other ? Surely this takes longer than looping unless you don’t want to end up back at one end of the road again. Is that the idea ?

That's exactly the reason,some streets have to be backed unless you fancy dead walking back down it again.

I used to back to back on my old round on one road as otherwise I'd have had about 10 mins dead walking.

It wasn't a busy road anyway. If it was a main road or something then there's no chance, I'd rather dead walk for 10 mins!
Does this rag smell of chloroform to you?

i back to back about 40 houses on my walk, it is a bit dodgy when i got my iphone on full blast to avoid the giro chasers. :Very Happy

Dead walking is great come on, chill out and enjoy it, you are being paid while walking along doing nothing in particular!!!

It depends - sometimes on a light day it's quicker to back-to-back (as we call it, you have 2 small bundles back to back for opposite sides of the road) as you're not dead walking past houses you have no mail for, you cross over and deliver on the other side instead.

About half my walk is like this, i've tried it allsorts of ways but B2B is quicker than looping for me. I deliver on fairly quiet estate roads though, main roads I wouldn't bother as any time you save you'll spend waiting to cross.
