The idea that the business would fund 1 in 4 Sat is laughable.
If you have X amount of work and Y amount of staff then it doesn't matter how many Sat off you have or what the attendance patterns are you still only have X amount of work and Y amount of staff.
Any increase in staff or hours just makes the operation less efficient.
Even if you bring in Sat only staff you still have to fund it by losing rest day cover.
If you move to "improved attendance patterns" like the 4 day week it becomes even more apparent as you have to take out 1 in 4 duties and absorb them.
ALL of the options for "less saturdays" that i can think of involve "self funding" of some description.

Still, there is one way to scupper the nightmare they want to make of our Saturdays, Strike, each and every Saturday. All it needs is for the workers to make their will known, and who knows, we may end up with a decent, sensible, Mon-Fri for our pains, much better than the shag-all we usually get.

It didnt say we had to go to a 4 day week, but at the same time IT DIDNT SAY WE WOULD HAVE TO TAKE AN EXTRA HALF ROUND OUT EACH , DO EXTRA IPS, AND EXTRA PREPPING OF PT RAOUNDS - in the same hours - so basically get shafted each and every saturday we work, so just to get an extra 4 saturdays off per year !!

Apparently we wont be offered 4 day weeks or anything diff at our office - we just have to cover the lads who`s days off that satdi, end of , no more pay/time/duty time/etc etc etc - we have to do extra IPS ,prep pt rounds, and take about half a round out each !!

Currently
52 weeks at 1 in 6 is 9 sats off per year, so you work 43 sats doing your own round and normal IPS /PREP etc

After deals in place
52 weeks at 1 in 4 is 13 sats off per year, so you work 39 sats doing lots extra of IPS/PREP/ and a possible half a round on top

Funny thing is , I pulled my useless cretin of a rep on this today and his answer was "you must have worked out that everyone would have to do lots extra on saturdays ,to cover the staff who are off , as now 1/4 of all staff are going to be off"

Even funnier is that when I asked him pre-vote how it would work he said "Its not our problem its theirs, nothing to do with us, we do as we always have and they have to sort the staffing etc, its their problem not ours"

No you dont have to do anything "extra" Jimmy. You have to work your hours, end of. Keep to that simple mantra and you'll be fine. If you've got time to do it within your working Saturday then what do you expect RM to do, let you have 90 minutes off for being super efficient? Im afraid if you're efficient then RM will use that as a stick with which to beat the shite out of you. They're actually promoting inefficiency, which is exactly what they'll get. I will be working to my time EVERY day no matter how much or how little is in, no quarter asked nor given, because if you dont they'll use a light day as an excuse for you to work over later in the week.

The days of running round like a blue-arsed fly to grab a half hour are over. I'll be walking at a steady pace, not running not strolling.

Managers are shitting themselves about this new agreement, 1. because they'll have to work long into the afternoon and 2. because they're the ones who will have to deal with handbacks at 3 in the afternoon.

Totally agree Harry unfortunately thanks to this deal and the one before it and the........our great leaders have now signed us up to live in the mad, mad, crazy world of RM management.

And remember saturday has to be a normal working day so no more "short" saturdays unless you can cover the workload.

Think you're wrong there fella , the workers made their will known during the last strikes and look where it got us !
The RM/CWU alliance are never going to give us what we want , more strikes would only bring more bad publicity for front line employees ( lazy , greedy , etc ) and given the union's "negotiating powers" more than likely , worse working conditions .
