New relationships
Now we have agreed to a new working relationship, for example the CWU being involved in the early stages of mail centre closures, network changes and deliveries etc. What happens when they fall out or disagree? Especially if RM have an implementaion date in mind, and that date is drawing near and there is no agreement, will they take executive action? If so what then?

Re: New relationships
Short and to the point here; I don't believe the majority of Royal Mail managers either know how to form meaningful workplace relationships or even care about whether they do or don't have good working relationships with their teams.
(Except maybe for those who have progressed through the ranks over the years).
The 'relationships' part of the agreement is about as ridiculous as you can get given Royal Mail's recent history with regards to industrial relations.

you do as i did
when the DIM was hassling me for cutting/streaming i told him to put me on any walk he wanted
told him to lapse what he liked
i would still be in on time, taking my break etc and finishing on time every day
just do the job exactly as required and piss them right off

Re: New relationships
Ref my bold, my thoughts are that they are just told from above to do this, if I was a manager new in, I would need a month to look at what needs changing in my new office, good or bad! Because when you really need a hand "when the s**t hits the fan" you have have to show that you can lead from the front.suz67 wrote:just got a new DOM at our place, second day in he informs everyone that starting on monday we are gonna start lapsing two walks, the two people on the walks said they didn't want to come off there walks!! he turns round and tells all he can take anyone off any walk and if anyone refuses he as "THINGS" in place to deal with the situation,so much for everyone working together in a nice pleasent and civil atmosphere, where do they get them from, how on earth does expect any kind of respect with that attitude, roll on monday!!!!![]()

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: New relationships
Hi dados.
I did use the word 'maybe' when referring to those managers who have progressed through the ranks as I am certain that no manager is immune from becoming a complete 'ranker'.
It seems that there is no 'winning formula' in creating a decent manager and, for me, it mostly boils down to the following.
1. Personality.
2. His interpretation of business rules and policy.
3. How much pressure his line manager is putting him under.
This is certainly not an exhaustive list but I reckon it's a start.

Re: New relationships
Cheers dados.
It's great when we can agree on things but.............
What on earth can we all do about it?
Everybody seems to know what the problems are but nobody seems to have reasonable and workable solutions to them.
In the words of Jim Royle- "new relationships my arse!"
Keep smiling.
