limit on D2D is there one

Ive looked through the agreement to see if there is a weight and size limit for these D2D which they will be telling us to deliver.Is there a limit. Could they be the size of A4 or even more, and could each item weigh similar to a saga mag, screwfix catalogue etc. etc.

I can’t imagine that any company could afford the outlay of blitzing the country with untargeted D2D’s the size of Screwfix catalogues.

The design, production, printing and distribution costs would make it a non-starter.

I think the fear that loads of companies will suddenly switch from addressed mail to unaddressed d2d mailings is a bit wide of the mark. When unsolicited mail first started becoming a widely-used way to advertise directly to people, it was very imprecise and companies had a 'scattergun' approach of targeting every house, regardless of whether the occupants would be likely to buy their products.

They have since got a lot more sophisticated at identifying who is likely to be a buyer of their product(s) and targetting the specific houses where previous and potential customers live. This reduces the overall size of the mailing, but more importantly greatly reduces the cost to the advertiser too. I don't see how the cheaper d2d product would be a good choice for those kind of users of (addressed) direct mail. Millions of items at a slightly cheaper price vs targetted mailing of 200,000 homes ? Direct mail is more cost-effective.

After all, there's not much point Saga sending stuff to houses rented out to students, or to anyone that does not fit their typical customer profile. That would, quite literally, be a huge waste of money.

saves them sending out D2D every month, when people see whats on they may change, and who would turn down a free mag

Murdoch is a successful businessman. He didn't get that success tossing vast amounts of money into mailing houses that don't have a sky box. He can advertise more cost-effectively via TV ads on free-to-air channels, and does.

I realise that, but the same question still applies. Millions of items vs a targetted mailing of 200,000 homes ? Logically, there must be a price structure that would make the cost of sending millions of weighty items massively prohibitive vs a more targetted mailing. Otherwise, a shrewd operator like Murdoch would already be blitzing every house with a Sky mag if doing that was cheaper than an addressed, targetted mailing, surely ?
