glasgow meeting
just back from a meeting in glasgow with dave ward and bob gibson, what a fantastic presentation bob gibson gave, I went in there with a closed mind, that this deal was a bad deal for posties, but boy did I get a wake up call, d2d into workload saves f/t jobs when mail volumes are declining globally, fact, d2d could cease in a few years, we could lose them to TNT etc etc, this deal gaurantees money into basic pay, we will be at the forefront of change now, not having it imposed, managers have to toe the line, they cannot behave like they use to, of all the people in the hall, there was only one desenting voice, I found that quite remarkable, I will be recommending my colleagues to vote yes.

I'm all for saving full time jobs, but at what expense to part-timers, with the pro-rata debate ongoing.joeboy wrote: d2d into workload saves f/t jobs when mail volumes are declining globally, fact, d2d could cease in a few years, we could lose them to TNT etc etc, this deal gaurantees money into basic pay
I've been part-time for 8 long years, and dont ever see this changing in the future, no matter what 75/25 % is in the agreement.
The D2D I'm delivering this week have TNT printed all over the box, so I don't think we will ever lose out on D2D items, as we will still be the best final mile delivery option.

Re: glasgow meeting
I was there also, and while I was impressed by both Ward and Gibson's presentations, there are still holes in a couple of their arguments IMO.
Average number of D2D across country 'only two' according to Bob because in some areas there are none.(ie Highlands of Scotland because firms dont advertise there, and London because quality is so bad). The problem for me is that these areas will STILL see none, or very few, whereas the areas that get 3 every week will get slaughtered. Going on about a huge 'untapped market' and 'being on a level playing field with TNT' is all well and good but tell that to the troops when 5, 6, god knows how many are coming in and we're getting 20 quid a week including ESA.
The question put to them about selling out on longer Saturdays was swept aside also, the mantra being that everyone will be jumping through hoops to get their 1 in 4 and 'most deliveries will finish by 14.30' Cheers, Bob that leaves me half an hour to get to the football.
Money part -good. SWW- good. CWU involvement in all parts of revision activity -good.
But voting for a pay cut? Hmmmm.

we wont have mail centres prob sell them off to tnt ukmail dhl cheap labour to sort and prep
pass it on to pt workforce dumbed down and in eventual decline to min wage standards
thats what your voting on folks

its all desperate measures from corrupt gvmt ,mgmt and union

Re: glasgow meeting
I don't see us losing d2d either....if that where a serious consideration, it's odd that the agreement lifts the 3 a week limt....without agreement = no D2D with agreement = 4, 5 or 6. Thats completely contadictry and makes no sense what so ever! other than as a sales pitch.djchrisc wrote:I'm all for saving full time jobs, but at what expense to part-timers, with the pro-rata debate ongoing.

ps. nice to see CWU making a big noise about declining volume. Pherhaps they could explain why we keep getting loads of letters mixed in with our flats.

Re: glasgow meeting
How exactly does this save jobs? Door to Doors are already part of the workload. EXTRA work saves jobs, so I'm all for that, even if it's those dreaded Door to Doors, which I hate. If doing twice as many Door to Doors adds hours to offices, I'm all for it, but for heavens sake, PAY US FAIRLY FOR DOING THEM!joeboy wrote: d2d into workload saves f/t jobs when mail volumes are declining globally
