CWU obliged to serve Management

Post by MinisterofCucumber »

What are the implications of this part of the agreement:

"The need for CWU to recognise that Royal Mail management has absolute accountability to the public, its customers, employees and stakeholders, for the performance of the business."

Does this mean that, although the CWU will be free to argue any point, management will always have the right to introduce any changes they want and that the CWU is obliged to help them introduce these changes?

Is this an agreement to allow management to take 'executive action'?

As I have reiterated time after time "The words are the words" - no matter how much spin on the agreement there is - the words of the agreement are what will be implemented.

Plenty of fishing but no it does not. The Union is an independent trade union which reprsents members in Royal Mail. However we do not run the company and we dont have to answer to the Govenment , the regulator or the customers. Every bussiness decides what their company stategy is and then negotiates with the trade union.Thats whats always happened, your taking that section out of context without looking at other parts like

Royal Mail and the CWU recognise past adversarial industrial relations and poor employee relations have not assisted either party achieve their objectives and has increasingly damaged customer confidence. Both parties also accept that unless there is a radical improvement in relaitonships at all levels then the bussiness cannot succeed.

I have had more rows with Royal Mail then most and I dont sense those words open the door to quicker executive action process.

The Industrial relations framework and the various reviews are still in place , and executive action is not made any easier by this agreement.

With this agreement it wouldn't NEED to be executive action - the words are the words. The same provision for mutual respect and admiration and a new understanding were contained in the 2007 agreement, so there is nothing new in this "understanding". Royal Mail is the same, the leadership is the same, the membership is the same - so what on earth is going to change?

The inherent distrust by the membership is still there and in fact has shifted in part to the union.

Well said DV what we have to decide is do we trust RM do we trust the CWU or do we trust neither i think they will get a yes vote because of the CWU campaign but if it is as i hope a no then i believe the Exec should take it as a VOTE OF NO CONFIDENCE and do the decent thing !
