im my latest argument my hours had been changed so that i actually have got to work 24 hrs per week (24 hr contract, in the past this was averaged out over the 6 weeks as i am on the day off rota - pissed me off but fair enough.
well now this is where paranoia kicks in, over easter my day off is good friday, in this new way im working i would normally have to work extra on a thursday to compensate (fridays/saturday i prep and deliver - mon-thu just deliver), either way i imagine i will be owed a day in lieu?, will they expect me to work extra on a thursday even though friday is a bank holiday?, what should a day off actually represent for me ie average over 5 days is 4.8 hrs, ive been told if i book off a friday i will have to work extra on a thursday. To me having diff days with diff time spans totally complicates things i dont know what there gunna come up with next.
I just always got it in my mind that their trying it on with everything. :mfo

anyway why would you have to work extra on a thursday just because you are off for a bank holiday? i dont understand , you should have the same rights as full timers and should get a day off back in lieu

Its only not recognised in Scotland The rest of the UK it is - Parts of Scotland do not have Easter Friday off as they get 2 days off at New Year.aldothelad wrote:good friday is not a recognised holidy by royal mail

Last year I remember the Saturday between Good Friday and Easter Monday being one of the busiest Saturadys of the year.

Historically, there are three types of Public Holiday in the UK, these are holidays by Royal Proclamation, common law holidays and Bank Holidays. However, most people now refer to them all as Bank Holidays.
There are two common law Public Holidays. Since these two days, which everyone assumes are Bank Holidays, were recognised as 'days of rest' by the Church of England it was not felt that they need to be included as Bank Holidays in the Bank Holiday Act of 1871. They are Good Friday (the Friday before Easter) and Christmas Day. (good this google , lol)
Because of the above, RM did not recognise Good Friday till some years past, we use to work for 2 half times pay or time and half pay and a day in lieu . We did not mind working it as it was a good earner and we had to work Saturday.
Then RM suddenly realised they could save millions by recognising Good Friday , so they did and we lose our big earner and get a pointless day off
