Does anybody know exactly how many SDs a walking postman is supposed to carry on duty, I asked this in a recent WTLL session and my D.O.M says 5, but when stopped by security he said 3, and my union rep doesn't seem to have clue

Do not carry more than the maximum number allowed. Do not expose yourself to risks.
If it is a high risk area then refer to the “WalkSafe” threat assessment procedure as it may
be necessary to reduce the number or remove these items completely on certain walks.

The important thing is that a Walk Risk Assessment must be carried out and such assessments
based on local knowledge and previous incidents may override these standards to ensure
the most appropriate safety and security protection levels are maintained at all times.

A maximum of 8 Special Delivery (SD) individual items per walk may be carried each day,
of which no more than 3 may be higher value SD items, a maximum of 48 SD individual
items per walk each week of which no more than 18 may be higher value SD items.

Walks exceeding this standard number of items per week must to be Risk Assessed to determine
the appropriate method of delivery and whether it needs to be motorised. Ideally collection
and deliveries in town centre areas should be motorised.

Can't see anywhere it's been changed,but then there are no guidlines with CDV published yet.

I believe that van share walks take out all the specials for the walk no matter how many though I guess there must still be a dedicated van duty for dealing with the 9am specials. For the time deadline are all specials that originated from outside the UK treated as 1pm specials?

The 12 O'clock specials are actually 1pm ones. We used to have to do specials before 12 midday but they changed. Looks like some POs and businesses are using up old stock.

Treat them as 1pm ones.

I never know if they are 9, 12 or whatever, I never look at them. I never look at my watch either, until I get back and write my overtime down.

I often get specials for the post office on my round with foreighn currency in. They say 12pm on the label and they are coming from within the company! Also in my office there is no dedicated duty for 9am's, they just all fail - get there as soon as you can.
