In the Sun today there was an article that said we get a 'staggering pay deal' - £40 a week pay rise by 2012, a 38hr week and £2500 in bonuses. Not only that, but apparently Ken Clarke has said he'd like to know what the cost is to the taxpayer. Considering RM makes a profit (hence there is NO cost to the taxpayer) I would be worried if the shadow business secretary really did say that!

I emailed the journalist with a reply to his garbage article but haven't received a reply yet, and doubt I ever will - made me feel better though! steve.hawkes@the-sun.co.uk is his email address.

PEACE DEAL AS POSTIES POCKET 7%
Hours cut & £21/2k bonus

Royal Mail is handing 145,000 posties a 6.9 per cent pay rise in a staggering peace deal.

Staff will also collect up to £2,500 over the next three years in bonuses.

There is even a shorter working week under the new agreement, revealed last night.
It follows months of bitter talks and a national strike last year.

Royal Mail can now push ahead with a £2billion modernisation plan and cut an estimated 40,000 jobs.

The deal comes at a huge cost to taxpayers at a time when many workers are being hit with pay freezes.

Royal Mail boss Adam Crozier said: "It's a good and fair deal for our people and a good deal for our customers
as it ensures stability." Staff get a 2 per cent rise next month, a further 1.4 per cent in April 2011 and a 3.5
per cent in 2012.

Full time posties get a £400 bonus when the dea is ratified and £1,000 for changes in working. Bonuses of up
to £500 may follow in 2011 and 2012.

The working week is an hour shorter at 38 hours. A postie on £340 a week could be £40 better off in 2012.

Dave Ward, of the Communication Workers Union, said: "It's been a long time coming, but this deal delivers
on the major issues which postal workers have fought for".

Shadow business secretary Ken Clarke said: "It will be interesting to discover how much the taxpayer is paying for this."

But most papers will go for the incorrect hadline grabbing "7%" - woohoo, read deeper and it's spread over three years and if I read correctly the last 3.5% is subject to change - which knowing RM it will do (to a lesser amount)..

As above, Dave and Billy really don't have a f***ing clue what "WE" want, I would have preferred the same money but with removal of the bullying aspect of things like lapsing and pagasus, all I wanted was a fair workload not to be treated with contempt and derision everyday. If these two clowns continue with their deluded dreams then I might just give myself a £3/week pay increase!

As I've posted in another thread - 6.9% over the next three years is, on current Bank of England inflation forecasts, actually at BEST a pay increase of 1%, OR morfe likely a pay freeze, OR at WORST a pay cut of 4%. Essentially it is a pay freeze with the way inflation is most likely to go.

The bonus money is already allocated to us via Collegue Shares and is not new money. It is also tied to string so IS NOT garanteed.

Ontop of the pay freeze we are loosing 30% of our d2d money and d2d will be increasing by 100-300% or more.

In summary a pay cut with an increased workload plus MASSIVE job cuts.

I therefore concur that sad though it is to say it, Dave Ward is a cock.

Just like to say OGPAT that you undersell possible inflation...print money...or "quantitive easing" to give it its fancy term, only lends itself to one thing...rapidly rising inflation...
