1 in 4 saturdays

If full timers and reserves are going to be working less saturdays ie: 1 in 4,does that mean part timers will be working nearly every saturday????
anybody got any ideas??

We were told to do this staff working the saturday would have to do say a round and a 6th to cover for the extra ones having the saturday off. Sod that i say.

Why not have full timers working 40 hours tues-fri and part timers working 20 hours sat - mon.

Its all bull, its just RM way of getting this in through the backdoor. The DOM will just say it is unworkable and we will all be stuffed on saturdays working till god knows when.

Like, what kind of nutter would want to do extra on a saturday?? saturdays in our office is now one of the busiest days of the week!!
No chance i'll be doing it!!

we have some mon-fri duties with part timers doing the sats for 7:30 saving 30 mins per duty
the full timers have to cover all the ips on first wagon and P/t help on the 2nd
most of these are on sat only contracts but pick up 7 hours for a duty more often than not in the week (saving office an hour), so the DOM does not have to pay overtime at the higher rate

at the moment we don't have any monday to friday duties in our office and as far as i know, no saturday only part timers, so i wonder who's going to be covering the xtra saturdays, if indeed anyody will get 1 in 4 saturdays off. i doubt it though!!!

they could make us all 4 day week with 10 hr days the rotating day off would average out as 1 saturday in every 4

Sod the 1 in 4 anyway ,its a crap deal even if you do get 1 in 4 off you still can't get a football season ticket or play football or play cricket reguley, or take you son or daughter to play sport and enjoy watching them play

Because not all part timers only work 20 hours. Some work 18, 24, 25, 30 and even 35.
Further arguments could be made that if, for example there are 50 deliveries in an office, you would need 50 full time staff to deliver Tuesday to Friday and 50 part time staff for the Saturday and Monday. It is not feasible, nor fair to expect or assume that just because someone is forced to work part time, that they do not deserve a weekend.
It is posts like this that cause a divide between F/T and P/T at a time when we should be united.

I have asked for this many a time, as i always work sat. Had about 2 off last year.

This would be the bare minimum I would accept if we have to put up with this deal. Where has 1 in 4 suddenly come from in the deal, as you say, the 4 day week allows 1 in 3 saturdays off. Would local management allow it though?

for those that don't know, 4 day week can work a bit like the current rotating day off system, You get rotating days off, except with the 4 day week you get 2 days a week grouped together. week 1 = Mon & Tue off. Week 2 = Wed & Thur off, Week 3 = Fri & Sat off. Then back to week 1, ect. so every 3 weeks you would get Fri to tue off (5 day long weekend off).

Thats what we have been doing for the last 3 years at our place
Its a long day but believe me those long weekends every 3 weeks were well worth it the weds and thurs off breaks the week up nice as well.If you can get this duty structure at your office then go for it its all about getting quality time away from the job imho.
