resigning from the union
i have seen this mentioned on some threads, don't !! think about it, if their was a exodus from the union it would play into royal mails hands and it would give them carte blanche to really hammer us, what do i suggest instead then you ask, well for a start this is our union our aim should be to remove hayes, ward and those members in the PEC that rubber stamped the deal and replace them with more militant members who sole aim is to look after our interests and not the interests of the labour party, which means everyone should use their postal votes in union elections to get the right men/women in to do the job

Re: resigning from the union
I think you are correct as we need someone who will fight back and fight harder but the question remain - how we challenge the leaders and fire them. I wouldn't know where to start. I don't use my votes for selection of people. I am not interested in voting for Assistant secretary for minor region group or whatever. I do use my vote for accepting deals or strikes or anything important.
I want to vote someone to replace Billy, Dave and co. I have not seen anything from last three years or whatever.

Re: resigning from the union
I think you are absolutely right to want change at the top. The problem however is that these positions are uncontested so the same people get elected without an election.Godric wrote:i have seen this mentioned on some threads, don't !! think about it, if their was a exodus from the union it would play into royal mails hands and it would give them carte blanche to really hammer us, what do i suggest instead then you ask, well for a start this is our union our aim should be to remove hayes, ward and those members in the PEC that rubber stamped the deal and replace them with more militant members who sole aim is to look after our interests and not the interests of the labour party, which means everyone should use their postal votes in union elections to get the right men/women in to do the job

Re: resigning from the union
You are right, we all need to stay in the union to fight from within. Does anyone know when the next election for the major posts will be? We need to get alternative candidates in position ready to start campaigning, and meanwhile campaign for a NO vote on this agreement. That will send them back to the negotiating table and make sure they have to start consulting with us.

Re: resigning from the union
Im out of the union after seeing this agreement. Last straw for me. I have never seen anything so ridicolous in my life. Basically we end up with less money with more work to do. Thanks for that CWU. Royal mail are laughing there heads off.

Re: resigning from the union
PEC elections are annual - this year's should be taking place soon.
Election for GS and DGS are every 4 years I think.
IIRC the last time was in 2008, and they were uncontested, and will not have to stand for re-election until 2012
- unless a motion of No Confidence is put (would need a lot of Branches to submit Emergency Motions) and carried
at CWU Annual Conference, which takes place in June.

No you have to have the support of your own Branch and four other Branch`s too stand. In reality you have to have at least the support of 40 Branch`s to win against the DGSP and more against Billy as the General Secretary is voted on by the whole of the Union including the BT side of the union.Godric wrote:baldrick wrote:PEC elections are annual - this year's should be taking place soon.

Re: resigning from the union
Elections for GS and DGS aren't until 2012 AFAIK.
You would need to be nominated by your Branch - and preferably lots of other Branches.
PEC nominations are currently open - close on March 25: http://www.royalmailchat.co.uk/communit ... 15&t=23646" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Re: resigning from the union
I dont think it is, surely you have to have the support of your own Branch. By that you have to have done some representation of the members within your office and the wider Branch. To simply stand for a national position on the basis of your comments on Royal Mail chat is no criteria at all. Everyone can identify the problems but its having the solutions that makes the difference.
The support of other Branches is important as its the members who get the vote but every Branch recommends the candidate that they think is best for the union, if they dont know the candidate then they really dont know what that person stands for and what he has done to achieve what he stands for.
It is not dictatorship as John Keggie and others found out to their cost in the past.

Re: resigning from the union
It's not a dictatorship, more like a private members club.
In reality, you won't get in unless the existing members want you. If you are lucky enough to get invited in, you get to cane the union expenses credit card.
Truth, can you tell us which union official holds the record for the longest period of successive daily curry intake?

keggie got ousted by london for not doing seperate deals for London, Keggie was trying to make deals for the whole country and not 1 area, that is how Hayes got in powerThe truth! wrote:I dont think it is, surely you have to have the support of your own Branch. Re: resigning from the union
That's not true. Keggie was not elected to GS and subsequently left the CWU, because of the Way ForwardGodric wrote:keggie got ousted by london for not doing seperate deals for London, Keggie was trying to make deals for the whole country and not 1 area, that is how Hayes got in power
Agreement which adversely affected a lot of members up and down the country (not just London).
There are not enough votes in any one Area to determine who is elected. And Hayes supported the
Way Forward Agreement too, but Keggie was seen as the person mainly responsible for it.
