Impact of D2D arrangements on part time staff

Post by Roy Mayall »

Just picked this bit up from the agreement: "a £20.60 weekly payment supplement on basic pay (pro rata for part-time employees.)" That means a REDUCTION in pay for 4 hour employees, for delivering MORE d2d.

Pro rata will mean that people who work a 4 hour day will get £10.30 for taking out the same amount of d2d as a full timer. That's how it reads to me. What's the PFC union?

Don't even ask Roy, you really do not want to know.

£20.60 is a disgrace as i get £40pw already. So this is nearly an £80pm pay cut. Or £960 PA.

What sort of deal is that?

I've already stated on a previous comments that paying D2D pro rata for part-time will be illegal. They should be getting the same as full-timers for D2Ds. D2Ds is a separate issue. Part-timers are still doing full-time walks but missing the inhouse work. If its pro-rata does this mean on walks a part-timer will only need to 75% d2dS. I'm pretty sure they is a act that discrimates against part-timers doing the same job for only pro-rata d2ds. I'm a full-time employee.

The agreement states clearly that it will be pro rata for part-timers on d2d. That means for a four hour part-timer he'll get £10.30 for delivering twice the volume. Currently part-timers are paid the same for d2d as full-timers. If this is illegal as you say, then I'm going to test the law by refusing to deliver d2d, once the agreement is implemented, but I need confirmation. Are there any employment law experts who can advise on this? I'd love to test this one out.

Not an employment law expert but i will explain how it is legal.
D2D into workload means exactly that.
You do not get paid anything extra to deliver them.
What you have is an HOURLY supplement for the delivery of D2D that is why it is pro-rata.
It just so happens that most part-timers work involves the delivery side so they will be delivering the D2D included in their workload.
BTW i am no fan of this i think it is shocking but not illegal.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

I'm no law expert either but i have studied some law not employment law. This is the same scenario as when i worked at mail centre when the part-timers never got paid the first 10 mins free. Rm had to pay back years to of money to people. In ended up getting 7 weeks extra holidays :Very Happy . It is 100 percent discrimated against part-time workers, part-time workers will still be doing 4 hour walks, like full-timers and d2ds. What they miss is the prepping etc. The negiotiating team have failed to notice trying to rush through a crap deal.
This act may help part-time workers "Part-time workers (Prevention of less Favourable Treatment) Regulations 2000 (SI/1551). To me personally the part-time workers are getting treated differently for the doing the same job as full-time workers ie Delivery.

This has to be illegal :cry Why should we be punished for working parttime ? I`m on a 30 hour a week contract so I prep and deliver my own delivery . The only thing I don`t do is the IPS .If they want to pay me to deliver 75% of the D2D then thats exactly what I will deliver . I may be wrong but I can`t see it being added onto the hourly rate because that will mean overtime as well surely ? :cry Or am I picking this up totally wrong ?

If I choose to make a stand and only take out 75% of my D2D , will I have the full support and backing of my union ??? :hmmmm Doesn`t bl**dy look like it .

I`m in the union and have went on strike every time but I feel like maybe its time for me to give the union up as a bad joke. I was gutted when the strikes were called off the last time , felt like I had lost wages for nothing but decided to give them the benefit of the doubt . If the agreement is as bad as its being implied on here then even if it gets voted OUT , where is the incentive for us part timers to strike again . It`s not the first time, as a part timer I have been sold out by the union but I`m thinking it will be the last :arrrghhh

I am part time and im as disgusted and frustrated as anyone else by these news but i agree totally with what Fishtank has said. It certainly isnt illegal to make the supplement pro rata because the number of D2Ds you deliver is now immaterial it is simply a supplement for delivering D2Ds which is part of the workload. It is still very frustrating because of the loss of earnings.I hve a part of my delivery where i can do 150 calls in about 40 mins wheras a rural guy might only do 30 or 40 calls in the same time. Am i actually working harder than him? My own personal view is that £30 to £35 would be a fair payment.

Vote no.

If its a yes vote cut off or claim for the D2Ds. Something that will be very easy if you have to prep over 3 items!

Then resign from the union.
