Final Delivery from Royal Mail Stamford Delivery Office - 27th June 2009. The Royal Mail relocated all Stamford staff (along with other small delivery offices) to a larger delivery office 12 miles away in the neighbouring city of Peterborough which is far from ideal as now all rounds are delivered using vans.

Not many people know that if it were not for wealthy influential land owners there Stamford would have become a major railway junction and grown rapidly in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, but due to their opposition Peterborough instead rapidly grew from nothing to a major town while Stamford remained the quiet backwater it still is today.

That was a very quiet office, was like a library compared with my office, sad to see them closed though..
