Phone in to Confirm your Specials

This is the latest plan in my office, our Delivery Office Manager got us together today and said if your out on the streets with Special Deliveries around the one o clock deadline we must phone in and confirm they have been delivered or not, a special mobile phone from Royal Mail has been set up in the locker for the phgs to answer.
You can ring or text them in. I find this outrageous especially when the union rep was there listening to it.
These are the question that was raised and the answer the Manager gave us.
My Answer to that is either put back the dealine to 2.30pm or take them off us.

What if we don’t have a phone………………Make your way to a call box and reverse the charges.

Who is going to pay for my mobile call and text…… Royal Mail will pay you a £1 a week..

I personally don’t want to be getting my phone out in full public view in case I get mugged. Its another bullying tactic from Royal Mail Managers.
There is nothing in my contract about ringing in. why is the union not stopping these stupid plans…
Going off your walk is time consuming to find a phone box full of urine and a filthy mouth piece no thanks…..

But with a pda you don't need to phone to confim delivery?
You push item delivered or not delivered (and why not) and it sends the status of automatically.

We once had a plan that we would have 2 Prioritiy Service cards and when we had deliverd all our Special Deliveries (before 1pm) we would pouch off one of the cards in a special coloured pouch so the driver, when he cleared the box or PO, would recognise the pouch and take it back to the PHG. The second card was then for any Recorded Deliveries on the rest of the walk.
Funnily enough it never happened but no-one ever explained why.

They have been doing that in my depot for years, however, as nobody ever bothers to answer the phone, I gave up trying.

at our office if we dont think we will get a special done by 1pm then the managers give it to the driver to do. They cant make you phone in thats a bully tactic, tell them nice try but think of a new idea unless they are gonna supply you all phones. As for changing the times on specials the regulators wont allow it so RM cant. The other day i done a special at 11 15 but i wrote on the card 1:15pm and told my line manager the woman went mental and is coming in to have words lol, i like winding them up. The royal mail managment are a joke dont take them seriously because i sure as hell cant.

We have a system whereby if I take a special back, it's undelivered, if I don't take it back, it's been delivered. Don't know why all this confirming and phoning lark is necessary.

Tried same thing in our office but rep was against idea, too much mucking around trying to find phone etc etc, so best practice would be if near a point in dely you know your going to be at 1.00, tell dim dom you need a driver to attempt this as you cannot/ will not deviate from dely route( which can be a discipline case if you do) so he will have to do himself.
I was nearly sacked some years ago for travelling in my van 600 yrd off route to take a piss..... I kid you not I received a 2yr serious only cuase another dim fecked up, boy was dom spitting teeth, so I personally would tell him/her that if your a walking postman you aint walking any further than your route dictates, chrisy you may have to walk miles to get a phone. The real reason I suspect as it was in our office is that too many were failing audits for this or customers were not getting SD but on the system they are shown as delivered and signed by A Hitler or D Beckham etc etc ...get the idea.
Put your rep onto it and get someone else to deliver these on o/t or something, maybe get a p/t duty made up just don.t let it start in the first place.
