Indulge me here. I read that in many offices,like yours, duties are slashed on the altar of modernisation and mechanisation that never happens.
My question is - do the walks get done or is the office in chaos ?

The problem i have found is that everyone says the new duties can't be done and then everyone proceeds to do them by cutting corners,coming in early and using their own transport.

The problem i have found is that everyone says the new duties can't be done and then everyone proceeds to do them by cutting corners,coming in early and using their own transport.

Initially, no matter how elongated the walks became, most of us being from the old school got on with the job.
At least at first, but enough is enough as they say, so there is now a lot of cutting off etc---and yes, people in our office
cheat to suit themselves--in fact the vast majority do so now! The office is completely divided now, with no real cohesion, and what used to be a big (almost!) happy family, has turned into Bedlam.Happy Days!

Walk sequencing machines are in for Chorley near us and the lads there who know theyre frames well, say it saves max 10 mins of prep time, and theres still loads of IPS to do due to it mainly being flats and packets nowadays. Then they have to do lapsing, and another 150+ drops per delivery.

Oh and at Chorley they made the frames higher , 5 even 6 rows high as there just wasnt enough room , and the lads now have to put 2 trays on top of each other toi be able to reach . And they say doing your top 2-3 rows causes excrutiating pain in your arms after a day or so

Beware of a increase in flat sorting machines, a fe wmonths ago the area processing rep put outa communcation saying that due to that big new office out Northampton way having a FSM P'boro MC would have less flats to sort and manager were pondering on walksorting flats.

Like you letters are just a mere fraction of the IPS these days all packets and flats. But if the flats get walksorted IPS will be well and truly decimated.

Does it include you hours and the fact you have the days off that you require?

Your DOM could be on dodgy ground if you have all of it in writing!

Do what we did refuse to pick on the grounds of waiting to hear from the stage 3 until this stage has concluded the proposed changes should be on hold and your rep should know this.

In the eyes of R/M if you start to pick duties that is an admission on its own that you all agree and accept the new walks. So dont pick but be aware they will allocate duties as they did in our office and it will not be done through the seniority ,so on that can your office cope with that until a time of picking that it suites you.

I am talking fom experience here as our office went through exactly the same thing a couple of months ago. We ended up Walking out for 4 days un-offically

A Re-Pick has nothink at all to do with your DOM it is for the members to decide whether or not you have a re-sign not his simples.

If i were in your shoes come monday all staff would be advised not a choose any new duty.

There are no walk sequencing machines in PR areas whatsoever - Chorley may well be slated to have them but they are a long way from being installed in any delivery office - methinks someone from Chorley is yanking your chain jimmy.

As for the FF - you may need to make alternative arrangements because if the last run to the DO with walk sequencers isn't due to get there before 10 and they do your office first and it takes three passes on the machine you ain't going to be out delivering by 0950.

what you save on prep you lose on ips cos more un-sorted trays come in later
plenty of lads at our place can be seen stood on boxes to prep the top row of there walks (not me cos im hard) but h+s is a complete joke

Possibly in the MC but we don't count them because they are scum Seriously though I don't know about the mail centre - if they have one it's not apparent in our delivery office - some of the mail is walk sorted but not sequenced.
