What constitutes a rural?

How would you decide when a delivery is a rural or not especially ones that have been created since geo-route? Would it be the delivery span, the distant you have to travel from the office, or something else?

I would say it's based on the area you deliver to. Would like to know as well, good question!

Used to be like that in my old office. Then they cut the Rurals down from 5 to 4 so they all had a quarter extra, then they added collections on the end, then they split them into 2 early starts and 2 late starts and expected the early ones to throw up and prep the late ones as well as their own in 2 hours - (which was proved unworkable right from the start and has to be covered by people being taken off IPS)

Now they all moan and bitch as much as the town deliveries - no more (and I speak as someone who did a Rural Delivery for 9 years before going onto Firms

a rural in our office is 1 hour town plus 5 hour rural delivery .put your own round in and prep another round as well plus your part of lapsed duty i would not mind a four and a half hour delivery

In our office the town jobs are restricted to 3½hours (Pegasus guess) and are done on bikes or walked.

The rurals have no time limit and are mainly 4-5 hours and done in vans.

Woodcutter son I take exception to your comment.We have two rurals in our office and six walks,I myself do a rural and I dont moan or bitch.I left the office at 9.00am today and got back at 14.00pm work that one out.And thats without a meal break(I do book the o/t).I personally think the walks are easier than the rurals as there always finished first and the vans have to do all the stuff that they wont/cant do.So in theory I would say that the walkmen are the ones who have it easy.This is just my opinion I dont want to offend anyone here.

I would have to agree with woodcutters son. Im a reserve in my DO and when i do a town duty i usually have to book ot at least once a week to complete the duty,but when im on a rural i can cruise around then sit,relax,listen to the radio while i have my break and still manage to complete the duty in plenty of time, even on busy days,and the rural men in my DO still have the cheek to moan that they are hard done by even though about 50% go home to kill time too,1 guy cuts peoples grass on delivery in the summer and books ot for being late back and another rural goes to the bookies and then home after he leaves the DO everyday before he gets to his 1st call. So in my DO the town walks are 100% harder work than the rurals. :cfo :cfo :cfo :cfo :mfo :mfo :mfo

If you notice my friend, I did say "in my DO".

We have had the 4 and a half hours town duties with the dreaded "park and loop" implemented by EA. The rural duties have not been touched in the last three major reviews. I have done many of the rurals during my time as a Leave Reserve. I can categorically state that doing the "new style" town delivies is MUCH harder than doing any rural I have ever done.
