Hi Everyone, I'm putting this thread on for a Male Colleague of mine who don't have internet access.
On Friday my colleague works on the bulky bags in our office, he had two bags left on a york when he stooped to pick up one of the last two bags he pulled his shoulder/neck and got into a lot of pain, he then weighed the bag in front of a witness it weighed in at nearly 19 kilos, now this bag was from the main Manchester mail centre, he apparently filled in a accident book record with a manager, and as he is already on a stage one he asked his assistant line manger that he wanted to go home with the pain he was in, he started at 5.30am and asked to go home at 9.am he is a full timer as well.
He then said to the assistant line manager would this trigger his stage by going home, the assistant came back to him later and said the D.O.M said it won’t trigger it as long as you come in on Saturday, the poor lad came in this morning in pain and the management never even asked, how are you, do you need help to throw your walk off or deliver it, or would you like light duties.
Totally ignored him.
The same lad does not want any more stages.
He said he was going to his Drs during the week se if he can get pain killers. Anyone got any advice on this, Royal Mail Are responsible for this 19 kilos bag in the first place…..

Because he came back to work after the AOD he MUST make sure any future absence is LINKED to the original AOD.
For his benefit he MUST see a doctor ASAP.

Terrible! Used to get the same problem with mail coming from IOW - seem to remember a 17kg on more than one occasion. Someone from the Manchester mail centre has broken RM H&S rules, which has resultedin an injury to an employee. Suggest your friend takes it up with his CWU rep.

hi I hurt my shoulder lifting persops off the LSM rack 1 sick in 10 years I was off for 9 weeks still having physio and came back to a first stage warning.

even if its an AOD it will still trigger a stage that cannot be helped it is automatic but the management should not issue this stage. To sum things up if he eventually got dismissed for being on a final stage and then went to an appeal and the person doing the appeal saw 1 of his sickness was an AOD they would reinstate him, it is illegal to sack someone for having an AOD and solicitors would have a field day taking the royal mail apart for this.
