Absorption

I know, that old chestnut. I just wanted to give my experience of it. I was on a 35 hour contract, for 1 and a half years. I used to do absorption like everbody else. I would finish prepping, then go out and do my bit of absorption and be back for 9.00 then bundle and bag, grab my missorts and off around 9.30. On a 25 hour contract I get in at 9.00, mostly to a part prepped frame, finish off frame and parcels, and be out for around 10.00. Now with starting on the outdoor side a half hour later, and the threat of absorption to come........ that, my friends, is the incentive to stay in a FULL TIME job.

Our dom forgot to cross this week out as christmas pressure on the last holiday pick,so now he is running round the office to get jobs covered and find sorters for the sky mags and catalogues he didnt expect, instead of absorption

What kind of incentive did you have in mind?

I am saying that the incentives they offer you, buydowns etc to do less hours and you would think, less work. The way it seems to be going, you will still have the same workload (minus IPS) on a 25 hour contract for 15 hours of money less.

luckily ive only ever absorbed once and that was the lightest tuesday ever in the summer, this week they had full timers absorbing which i found a disgrace with the weights of the catalogues and sky mags. what annoys me is i get paid most days for 9am-1pm i leave the office the same time as the fulltimers and they get paid till 10 past 2, i know they have a larger meal relief allowance but i think it takes the piss a bit, also this week a full time postie purposelly took a van out with only 1 seat in it so he didnt have to take me out so he could finish earlier, i had to wait 45 mins then for a lift!

You only have the same workload if you choose to.
I work for 8hrs,you work for 5hrs.
RM may wish to squeeze 6hrs workload into 5hrs but it is up to you if you want to go along with this.

You are missing the point I am trying to make, I am saying there is no incentive for full timers to go down to part time if the workload is going to be the same.

I am planning to take a buy down and go part time but sorry for the DOM, WHEN MY TIME IS UP, BACK TO THE OFFICE WITH THE BAGS. 20, 25 OR 30 HOURS IS EXACTLY WHAT I will be doing. As not up to the job, I am happy to be trained by them.
