I was just wondering if Royal Mail can do this to me;
My hours are 8am - 2pm part-time reserve.
Next week starting monday they have told me I am working 1:30pm - 7:30pm in the PBO
I have no problem with working this in the week, however I have another job on a saturday 2pm - 6pm
I said to my line manager I could not work the saturday due to this reason, his reply was "those are the hours you are down to work and you have to do it. I have been told that is what I have to do".
Can they do this to me?

You should check with your union rep or area rep but I am sure that they cannot change your start time without at least one weeks notice. So unless they told you last Saturday then they cannot force you to change your time.

On collections every xmas they give letters about a month before xmas pressure telling them their hrs are changing,i'm sure they have to give you 28 days notice.

I was told in passing a couple of weeks ago but no mention of what hours. The shifts only went up on tuesday to confirm things.

you should ask for a copy of your contract employment terms, if your hours are stated then they cannot change them without your agreement, but knowing royal mail they have slipped in some small print somewhere saying otherwise.

i had a look around on google, and most people say the notice they should give you is 28days but due to you being part time your hours might be variable, ask your manager for a full copy of your contract and terms of working.

I was given 1 days notice to come in early - 20 full time staff have left in the past 2 years so all part time staff like myself have been asked to go full time to compensate.

The difference is as you would be increasing your hours you were asked and had the right to refuse.
