Its getting too much

Ever since the changes in our office I've been finishing my round about 3:30/4:00pm from a 6:45am start. I've told the managers when we see them that the round changes haven't worked and come Christmas it will be horrendous. They didn't do anything about it. Now the last two days I've got out the office at 11:45/12:00 to deliver my first letters. Finishing then at 5:30/6:00pm. Working in the dark struggling to see letters, getting stopped by Joe Public asking why I'm so late. It all adds to the time plus there is so much mail and parcels.
Yesterday I said I'm thinking of cutting off at 3:00pm. My boss said "What do you want me to do, wave my magic wand and make the letters all go away. I think you'll find that in your contract your required to do some overtime", to which I replied thats why I said 3:00pm, work through dinner, that 55 minutes overtime. Then I got his festive spirit response "FOR GOD SAKES ITS CHRISTMAS SO PUT UP AND SHUT UP" To which I got the surprise of the TEAM I work with just laughing
Really feel pissed off with it all, there are people getting out at a decent time and getting back in there time or doing a little overtime and basically be done for a reasonable time. Its obvious that they ar'nt getting as much mail as me and there is far to much for the round, but its every man for himself and the boss and managers dont give a s**t. We dont see the managers they just stay away. I really feel like cutting off, but I like to offer a good service for my cutomers and I hate the thought of not completing but enough is enough.
Is anyone else getting this treatment or having unmanagable rounds? The strikes havent done anything for our office and if I say anything Im just moaning, the lads usually say this because they dont want part of my round being added to their easier round and upsetting their easy day and the boss just burys his head and pretends its not happening.

Just work to your time, they cant force you to go over! Tell them to get lost and you will cut off at 3pm no way would I work past that time no matter how much overtime the paid me, speak to your union rep they cant force you to work till 6pm thats madness..

Yes just like my office/round but I just work my eight hours and if I can't finish then I just cut off (no overtime) they don't like it but that's tought s**t, and as for your dom saying your contract says ypu have to work overtime ..............tell him to RAM it.

they cant force you to do overtime at xmas anymore mate, they used to be able to but that has been abolished now and all overtime is no longer compulsory during xmas pressure. Cut off there is no way you could get in trouble, a tribunal would laugh royal mail all the way out of the room if they heard you were dismissed for not doing overtime.

I know you say you don't want to let your customers down, but come on, RM are taking the p!ss big-time and your duty will never get changed UNLESS you start cutting off !!!!!!!!

Nobody should have to be delivering on the streets for over five-and-a-half hours, and most definitely not if you aren't even getting paid for part of it. As long as you continue to do this, they'll be more than happy to let you.

Bring matters to a head immediately, and cut off. Legally, they cannot force you to work overtime and your health and safety is being jeopardised by delivering at night

Making me out to be the one moaning and causing trouble in the office. If I mention cutting off I get a mouthful, another lad cut off today he got nothing, the boss was'nt happy but didnt give him any s**t. When I got back today my boss said he thinks Im on a go slow, to which I replied "In your words, what do you want me to do wave my magic wand and make the mail deliver itself. Its Chistmas so RM can put up and shut up". He didnt like that. I told him if the managers dont like it where are they? Give them a ring and get them down here, he said to me "You know they wont come" I said exactly, they dont give a s**t and why should I. He walked off.

I know how you are feeling but getting antagonistic won't help. It's best to bite your tongue and just follow the recognised procedure.

Inform you manager at the first opportunity that you feel that there is too much work for you to deliver in your contracted hours and you do not want to do overtime, or you are only prepared to do "x" amount. Then ask them what their instructions are to you. At no time do you say you are "cutting off" as this infers that you are deliberately delaying the mail. You are perfectly entitled to work only your contracted hours if you wish and do not have to justify why. It may be in your interests to volunteer to do some small amount of overtime as a safeguard against you being accused of breaking your contract but this is not completely necessary. ALL hours worked over your contracted hours are voluntary.

Remember to keep calm and ignore all the jibes from anyone else. You are acting within your rights and anybody telling you otherwise is wrong. Also remember to work safely and take all your breaks. There is no need to have a conscience about leaving work as it is not your responsibility to provide enough man-hours to cover the work, it is the management.

STAND UP FOR WHAT IS RIGHT!

3 and a half hours that is the maxium amount of time you are required to walk on your delivery. Any more is up to you.

work your hours and tell them to cover what you cant do,if you keep on working late they will do zip about sorting out your walk.

if u cut off everyday for the rest of your life they cannot touch you aslong as you worked your 8 hours and do your job properly, do not let managers intimidate you into thinking your in the wrong by cutting off, if you know in your heart of hearts your walk is too long then the only way to highlight it is to cut off or you wont ever get a walk test aslong as you keep completing.

We have no union rep stationed at our office, before the strikes we hadn't seen a rep for about two and a half years. Then we got a visit from a union area manager, he said no reps wanted to come and the doms at the main offices wouldnt give them time off their rounds to come. We haven't seen anyone since.
