Christmas Eve Working.

The place I work at is running one shift instead of 2 on Christmas eve from 7am til 3pm. I usually start work at 3:30pm and do the evening shift. I have been told that one of the managers has agreed with the day shift, without the manager speaking to us, that they will split the shift so they work 4 hours and we do the other 4. Last year an option was given to either book it as a holiday or work at the depot. We would like to know what our options are as we really don't want to work the half shift and don't see why we cannot have it as what was agreed last year.

Bristol Mail Centre has to work 2pm until 8pm Christmas Eve. After working until 6pm all previous years its been put back later this year without discussion or agreement as usual. Only 6 hours instead of 8 I know, but they could have allowed shifts to overlap by an hour, with people just doing something other than their normal duty for a short while. If we're there then so are they. If I stay till 8pm then they will be there until 8.30, and with the one and a quarter hour drive home for some of them they'll be back for quarter to ten on Christmas Eve.

The shift I usually work is off, they won't be there. The day shift will work their 8 hours as normal with the day shift at the warehouse. When it is time for us to arrive it will be shut, closed. The manager has made an agreement without consulting us for us to work half of the day shifts hours which is what I am not happy about. We have been given no options. Last year there were options. Fedex who also work at the same warehouse have been told that those who work the evening hours have got to book it as a holiday because there the warehouse is closed after 3pm.
