Incomplete addresses

They have started to build up on my frame :/. Most of them are Christmas cards and are missing the house number or have a house number that doesn't exist on the street like 140 when there's only 20 houses on the street. I've put them all to one side and try to match the name to an address, I cleared this with my manager but I have a feeling a few will get sent to Belfast as next to none of them have a return address. This is a shame as they are Christmas cards, some might contain money but they will all contain an important seasonal message :/. I wish RM would do an add campaign again to highlight the importance of using the correct address and putting a senders address on the back just in case. Stuff like this gets you down a bit because you know that the person who sent it will blame the "thieving postie" for it not arriving.

As usual we will get the blame when the person does not get them. I'm writing off 10-20 cards alone each day plus there's the 10-20 I am able to locate correct address for. When will the public realise that we deliver only when we know where to deliver to we're not mind readers. Oh and all letters should have complusary return address on that way the sender gets it back and sees how stupid they were. I had one today it was addressed to mum & dad 130 ****** rd. No chance of finding where that was going street only has upto no.90/95 ain't got time to ask everyone.

Some rural areas it's not just this time of year, letters routinely addressed with person, hamlet and usually postcode, the cottage name omitted as for many decades it's assumed we all know that,.

a few years ago when i used to do deliverys we made books for our walks, taking house numbers and puttting names against those houses so any one else that covered our walks could search for names and addresses that didnt match , i wonder if its still done ?

our office covers 7500 stps and were all nosey bastards so we always deliver badly addressed cards there is nobody we dont know or wot they get

There's lots of genuine mistakes out there, especially this time of year.
If you don't know the address yourself, don't you talk to one of your colleagues and try to work it out between you ?
After all, the local knowledge we have sets us apart from any of the so called competitors ...

This is another reason why there should be a regular postie on every walk. I have delivered dozens of wrongly addressed cards so far this year and have killed hardly any.

Don't understand why for just one Christmas Royal Mail doesn't advertise that everyone puts they're return address on the back of every card they send, to let the addresse know the senders correct address and then they can update they're address book ready for next year.

I remember that. Unfortunately now the deliveries have increased massively and are constantly changing and being tinkered with, there is no chance, if they still exist, of them being up to date and accurate.

I had one card today, in what was obviously a child's handwritting. The stamp was upside-down, and folded half over the back of the envelope. It was addressed:

That's it.

I've got a very simple method for dealing with these.

If they give a tip, I'll manage to work out the incomplete address, if not then it's going to Belfast! Season of goodwill and all that!
