I I am the first person in my office to use an HCT. This came about as i lost a bag drop and i am only 10 mins walk from office. As my walk consists of 28 blocks of flats for the first 3 hours i was simply using it as a bag drop in the middle, going back to it every half hour. I have since been told that it should not be left unattended for more than 8 - 10 mins. I tried to push it around with me but to be honest by the time i went back to the railings to unlock it each time i could have cut across and done another block by then and i soon gave up doing it this way. I have now told my dom that though i leave it for 30 mins or so i can see it every 5 - 10 mins so i would know exactly when it disappeared if it did and for now this has been accepted, however colleagues have said to me that as i am not actually moving it i could be in trouble if it was taken. What do others think that have been using these HCTs. Ive asked for a better lock for it as its only a bicycle lock that comes with it but theyre not bothered. Thanks

That's a difficult one as I'd agree seeing it is ok. However my view is if it is only safe to leave for 10mins then we need something more secure. When I use mine I have to change the whole duty round just for one bag in the HCT otherwise it would sit in it for 2hrs and thaw adds time to the duty as it's a stupid order to deliver in.

Cant you just use a bike and go back to the office? If its only 10 mins on foot on a bike it would be 5 at most.

Seems HCTs are being introduced for no good reason.

Never. Never.Never leave your trolley unlocked. Use the lock RM supplies. It doesn't matter if it's only a bike lock. That's what they've given you, that's what you use. Lock it to a streetlamp or something.
If it gets nicked , you've done your duty and secured it so you're not to blame. If it gets nicked and you haven't locked it, you'll be sacked for definite. how sad if you lost your job trying to save 10 minutes off the day ?

Got to mine today to find it nearly hanging from the lampost. It was up on one corner of the handle and the bike lock had been wedged up the lampost to hold it up. I expect it to be trashed proper tomorrow as I have tied the lock so tight to the lampost there's no way it will budge wiithout breaking it or the HCT.

Thankyou for your comments. I do actually find it a help as the bags i carry up the flats are now much more manageable. It would take more time to cycle back to the office for bags and so i would be tempted to overfill the bags again. I never leave it onlocked, I just dont move it every ten minutes as they requested, but it is in sight, i just meant its not feasable to move it round each block like they suggested. I will ask about the alluminium panels.

I had a chat with DOM about this and he said that as long as you can see it, it does not need locking. I will get that in writing should I ever need to use one and I'll be asking the rep if this is sufficient just in case the worst should happen - I suggest you do the same.

And if it does get nicked, who will get the blame ? That's right. You will.
