Is it me ,just sometimes when driving down narrow lanes when you meet head on (quite nerving) another vehicle on using the brakes you sometimes feel like a knocking under the break pedal ,and the bl**dy van doesnt stop at once ,i think its the abs kicking in ,but i hate it i would sooner the brakes like my normal car where you stop quicker.
Anyone find this trouble?

You'LL find the knocking under the pedal is probably the built in anti skid machanism--but the van should still stop in the same way as normal.

ABS makes the vehicle stop faster in an emergency, it's just that you don't feel the wheels lock up you feel that your not stopping as fast.

Plus you can still steer under ABS braking.

PS. SLOW DOWN, if you're travelling down a narrow country lane then you need to take it a bit slower so that you can allow for emergencies.

I don't think so. ABS simply allows you to steer while braking hard, by preventing the wheels from locking. Under some circumstances it can actually increase the stopping distance. I found this with the first car I had that had ABS, in 1986. I couldn't believe how long the stopping distance was in the snow.

If your ABS comes on that often, you need to look at your driving...

All stopping distance in the snow is long and TBH I'd rather have ABS than not.

FFS if you're driving so fast that you're constantly needing the ABS then you're going too fast and need to slow down, I've had ABS on my cars for years and have only used it twice and I've never used it in a RM van.

You're doing a delivery job not driving for the BTCC.

I've been doing cadence braking since I was a teen.

My father was a Driving instructor in the forces and he says and taught me, that cadence breaking if done properly is the quickest and safest way of breaking. ABS is cadence breaking and is faster than just stomping your foot down on normal brakes, but it is not reactive unless you have traction control linked in with it,(ABS 8.2) and for some reason I cant see RM paying for that.

The latest version (8.2) not only handles the ABS function itself (ie, preventing wheel locking) but also traction control, BAS (Braking Assist System), anti-understeer ESP (Electronic Stability Program) and CBC (Cornering Brake Control), among others.
