18 DAYS STRIKING AND FOR WHAT

OK. Can someone please inform me as too why we striked for 18 days here in London. We have had no news now since we returned to work and nothing has changed, we still have not returned to our 4 day week and our manager has informed us we never will.
After reading through the forum's on this board I am wondering what was it all for,

Ive also been told that as part of the joint statement resigns can be carried out if agreed locally which is a good thing for any offices that have had duties allocated by management.

Not the only quality lacking. CWU has no choice right now and even Hayes has said change is inevitable. Anyone who mistakenly thought Royal Mail was going to buckle under union threats may be disappointed but not very well informed either.

Your post is at least partially correct NT,I don't think since the signing of this "interim agreement" CWU HQ has had any choice or indeed any intention of re-instating strikes and that would have been fine if they had been honest with the membership.
For senior members of the CWU to use the threat of strikes and attempt to con their own membership knowing full well that the leadership would not sanction these strikes is inexcusable.
To do so to further their own particular agenda,doubly so.

The thinking appears to be getting muddled. The author of this thread is complaining London had 18 days of strike action and got nothing.
Another thread - the update - has people moaning that London has been ringfenced and is getting their own negotiations with ACAS.
One says - we got nothing.
The other says - you got everything.WE got nothing.
And everyone blames the CWU.
Mixed up times indeed.

Clash city rocker - as you say the problem is everyones perspective is muddled, and why?
Because of the cwu's terrible comunication skills with its members, all this she said he said could be sorted by the union issuing a weekly members briefing then we'd have the facts from the horses mouth rather than these chinese whispers.
In our office earlier this year we had a request from the cwu for members email details so if a strike was called or called off everyone could be contacted, what a joke, most people got the message from the news or on here.
In the year 2009 members should be kept up to date using forum's such as this, face book or how about the cwu's own website not hanging on for any scaps of information the cwu seem fit to give us.

The business of this union is to ensure that it's members terms & conditions of employment are not impaired in any way, shape, or form. The CWU cannot keep kidding itself that it can enter into in any sort of partnership with the likes of Crozier, Brydon, Higson, et al. Ever since the first day that Hayes & Ward uttered that "change" was inevitable, it's given encouragement to management in their endeavours to force unacceptable workloads on postal workers, and has been the mother of all Albatrosses around the union's neck.

There cannot be anybody in the CWU who now doesn't see management's "modernisation" plans for what they really are, the implementation of cost-cutting on a scale never seen before, and in so short a time as to send the morale of postal workers to the lowest levels imaginable. The CWU must concentrate on defending it's members terms & conditions, and let the cost-cutting, sorry, "modernisation" lunacy be the concern of the half-witted incompetents that currently infest the RM boardroom.

The union has already accepted longer delivery spans and later starts for next year.This will all be done in the name of protecting full-time jobs.

Having read the latest so called full update from the union, I think we can all ask what are our membership contributions are actually paying for. As our employees, we are entitled to a full, honest and frank report each week as to the representations made by the union to the overseeing committee. They should also provide us with a full report on the representations made by Royal Mail, and if either party are not playing ball, we should also know what ACAS etc have asked to be put in place and within what timescales to remedy the situation. The kind of report that has been released on the CWU website can only cause deep resentment among the membership. Come on Dave Ward, lets get some real meat on the bone and let the membership know exactly what is happening. We do not want to wait until after Christmas and find that all this has been for nothing, because from where I am looking, RM are laughing all over their faces.
