I had a small run in with my line managers the other day. I was prep tested at 10.3 per minute when the target [read minimum standard] is 12 per minute but I'd only been on the duty 4 days.
I explained that I thought that 85% after 4 days was quite good but still I went through their process of 'assisting me'. I suggested that keeping me on a walk for longer than 4 days and putting the frames in a sensible order would significantly increase my prep rate. These suggestions were refused but I was informed I would be prep tested again in 2 weeks.
Obviously, I said that if nothing is changed then my prep speed won't change but that didn't concern them.
Anyway, come the next prep test I'm putting a grievance in on the grounds that they have no intention of training or assisting me, just pushing me to attain unattainable standards.
The problem I have is that the Line manager is just doing his job and even the DOM is just following orders. I need to put a grievance in against the source of the harassment but that person is hidden behind many layers and isn't actually targeting me, just giving blanket policy.
I don't know how to achieve anything with a grievance except redirect the pressure onto another postie who may be less able to withstand the harassment.

ridiculous - no decent manager would dream of insisting on 100% after 4 days in a APC with DBF's or flat / letter frames / bullrings let alone a DO - too overzealous - no discretion , common sense , perspective & proportion
you're right about hiding behind layers - they will also not take responsibility for a rogue manager that leaves the business - though it's obvious where the orders were coming from and who he was trying to impress .
Never ever done responsibility RM
- a bad culture
I don't think you can really make a grievance count as RM never go against their own but you will have a paper trail in black and white if you get into more trouble with RM - stuff for a rainy day ? which will be riddled with contradictions / inaccuracies and begging more questions than answers . Secondly you can't be accused of being a troublemaker trying to cause a stir outside RM .

i agree with you. i think the bullying starts at the top and trickles down to the bottom. however a good manager would stop it from happening, not carry it on. they don't listen to reason, most of them are arrogant bstards with attitude problems and the recent dealings i have had with management has the response of pointing to the 'manager' printed on their hi-viz and stating 'you will work as instructed'. i wanted to point to my forehead and ask if i had 'MUG' written across it ...The problem I have is that the Line manager is just doing his job and even the DOM is just following orders.
