The UK's main postal operator has today hailed a 'period of calm', following news that the Communication Workers Union has agreed to merge with a newly-created union that is financially supported by Royal Mail, Postcomm, the EU, and Lord Mandelson.
Speaking to BBC News, Lord Mandelson said the merger with the Stop Having Any Full Time Earnings or Duties Union will herald a new era in UK industrial relations, and postal staff will be reminded on their payslips of Billy Hayes' legacy, as all subs will be deducted with the merged unions' name shown clearly on future payslips:
