managers sqeeze near xmas, legit?

Post by SeriousSam »

my manager has told me i have to work extra over christmas to pay back time i took off 3 months ago when I took time off due to an ankle i thought was broken but it turned out to be a bad twist and spraini. he said i have to work extra to make up for it, he said i need to "pull my socks up and get on with it" in a raised voice when i questioned this,

is this a legit way of forcing extra hours around xmas onto staff who dont want them?

Absolute boll**** ! - they tried this on ( probably quite deliberately ? ) at Bristol , it caused a strike !

Get a grievance in against that manager and if he doesn't pull his socks up & get on with it , B&H him . This is what makes me laugh about these hyped up , committed managers , is he personally paying your wages out of his pocket ? - No !

OK , it wasn't quite as serious as it seemed to be , was it your fault ? , OK you might have got more time out of RM than you should have , that's just unfortunate for them and their budgets . If he wants to settle petty vendettas he can use RMAP , he knows that hence the sour grapes .

A Industrial Tribunal / The Health & Safety Executive would take a very dim view of unfair detriment for legitimate Health & Safety concerns . If your ankle was damaged at work , it should have been reported to the Department of Work & Pensions ( The Social ) as a Industrial Injury , if you don't report RM , RM will close ranks and bully people - end of .

If he tried that with a more senior postman who had been seriously ill outside work , somebody would have knocked that manager out ? - ask him to put that in writing , he wouldn't have dared to try that in front of a rep ? .

Next time record it if he starts willy waving and diarize everything , who , what , when , where etc . P*** poor man management and a mere bully who has never left the playground . I accept that there are professional claimers and skivvers but RM can turn a blind eye to them when it suits them .

Get it all diarized - everything , who , what , when etc - all these incidents may sound relatively trivial in isolation but if you get it down on paper ( Primary Evidence ) in Black & White , it paints a picture if you will and backs up your claims ?

That's how a bully works - you'll have to be a lot smarter than them ? - give him enough rope to hang himself :hmmmm

Bullies do pick on people who are quiet and inoffensive because they think they will be easy targets.
If you stand up to them (and you don't need to be rude or offensive) they will usually back off.

don't take the bait though and rise above his level - you have to come out whiter than white if you're playing the long term game . These people are so stupid and thick , they can only think in the short term .

We had a manager who tended to be touchy feely, many moons ago.

Went up to one guy and gave him a little pat and the chap turned round, pointed a finger at him and said, "Don't do that again, I don't like it", in a rather loud voice. Everybody who saw it was pi--ing themselves.

Said manager turned bright purple and slunk off into his den.

sometimes this " male bonding " is a way of softening people up for the next thing he has planned for you , see how far he'd get on the town on a Friday / Saturday night acting in a " manly friendly way " :hmmmm :hmmmm - log all the instances - it's inappropriate end of and hypocritical considering
