Just been phoned to say it is my day off

Post by realitybites »

I have just been phoned, 15 mins before I am due to start, on my way into work and told today is my day off. Yesterday I spoke to my Dom and asked what time he wanted me in (yesterday I went in at 6 to throw off a walk for absorption BUT only did my scheduled 5 hours). He said be in for 9 but if he needed me in earlier he would text me, which he didn't. I am sure a lot of people on here regard the night before as your day off, no need to be up early, can drink if you want, etc, etc. He said there was no work for me, anyone know where I stand

I take it that you are a floater or a reserve. 15 mins before you start your shift thats not good enough I would have went in. Get caller display and don't answer your phone if you don't know the number. If it's really important the caller will leave a message. Not really a lot the dom can do if you don't get any message and go in. He could send you home but I think he would have to pay you.

I appreciate that having retired six years ago things will have changed but do Managers really have the right to call you on YOUR mobile or use texts to give you instructions? If the phone is your property how come Managers have access?

My point is, have you given written agreement for Managers to communicate with you via your mobiles? If not, surely you just ignore it when they call and as someone has just posted, you go in and claim the attendance.

I did hear that one example of harrassment was being called on delivery by a Manager asking where you were. Is this the norm? if so surely the answer is obvious, you ignore the b******s!

Reasonable notice should be given. 15mins is not reasonable by any stretch of the imagination. 1 week is reasonable. As advised, if it happens again tell them you are on your way in and hang up quick. Signin when you get there and see rep. If they send you home tell them you have reported for duty and if they say go home ask when your day off is this week!
