WHAT IS OUR REAL PLAN ALL OF US?

SO, By now we are all hopefully blissfully aware of the bizarre state of affairs.

It does seem that various bodies top of hierarchy an government want the company to fail and us to strike! - so that the company is in a great run down state, ideal for a prospective purchaser or body to purchase and turn around!

Probably without a union.

So by Striking - which I currently am... are we just playing into there hands.

The damage seems to have been done.

Is there anything us the posties andd reps can really do to help stop the alleged 30,000 job cuts, wage cuts andd other imposed actions that affect every single one of our lives up and down the country. Any useful thoughts appreciated.

I have given my manager so much room for mistakes over the last year, letting things go, as after all he is human too, does he really deserve to be out of a job because he is an inadequate 'drip'. I could initiate about 30 grievances that I am aware of and point out things that he should be doing that he is not.

what do you reckon?

Fair question.

While ever the company was doing ok, i felt fairly safe (as safe as you can be in current climate) job security wise.

Can't help thinking now that there is an excuse for either privatisation, redundancies or closures.

Don't get me wrong, i think this was coming anyway, but fear is we have brought it forward.

RM may well be managed by the largest group of dipsticks ever assembled for the purpose of managing a company, and despite all the upheaval wrought on us posties, the company still made a profit last year, albeit an abysmal one considering the size of the company.

It will not be the fault of the CWU or its members if RM fails. The blame for that can lay fair and square with the politicians and euro-bureaucrats alongside Crozier et al.

It is not a question of 'our real plan' as RM are not listening to us .. it is RM having the decency, the honesty and respect due its workforce to share their real plan for the future!

if they make Royal Mail well run and make a lot of profit they can get plenty of tax and regular income to from income tax, national insurance and stuff. If Royal Mail is so good they can sell it to a business with a much higher price tag.

If Government run it down no one will want to deal with the politics and unhappy workforce and financial nightmare. Plus paying people off to leave and paying them dole money and finding them new jobs.

The government are cash broke!
since bailing out the banks they now effectively own thousands of mortgages which will take years to pay them back!
Theres a reasonable expectation that the taxpayer should see that money returned "one day".
Some in Whitehall undoubtedly see the Royal Mail as the last piece of family silver they can hock!
to free up a few 100 million.
There are also vengefull tories that just hate unions ,everybody's got their own hidden agenda.

the old boys network is alive and well im sure if i had the time i could dig up a list of tnt /uk mail etc shareholders and look for patterns

What they really want is to accept the pension liability - to do that they need to save face with the business community and the public by flogging off a share or all the business. If they accept the liability they will also take the £20billion of assets the fund holds - and another future government will have to worry about the £30billion liabilities. The cash they will get for flogging off the business is peanuts compared to what we have in the pension.

Truly--I do not think this Government have any long term plans for us.they are selling us of to the highest bidder to raise cash--and they seem to be trying to do with other bodies as well.
