Alan Johnson MP Or Alan Johnson CWU Same Man Now or NOT ?
Guy's Gal's Of The Blue Shirt's Brigade with regard to Mr A.Johnson MP (Our Previous Leader) he has had a little hissy fit fireing a professer Drug Advisor to the goverment. He looked a little upset to say the least. My question is does anybody now know which side of the picket line he stands. Ive got to say I cannot work the chap out but would like to think he is defending his previous cause, and not used us as a step ladder to the dizzy heights and would like to moth ball us all. If he is in support of us I would not mind seeing him fly off at a presenter defending our cause. Please any inforamtion or thoughts would be greatly apprciated.

Yes your right of course very hush hush But thats so bloody annoying, he is prepared to sack a highly proffesional DRUGS PROFESSER ADVISOR, because he did not like what he said (Personally I think MR A.J MP has dropped a boll#ck ) as he has not the knowledge or education this chap has had and has sacked him for giving his advice the job he is paid to do. Hay Ho thats the goverment all over.rural 3 wrote:Very quiet on the postal dispute, says it all really!!

Which side is he on ? Easy, He's on Alan Johnson's side.
He may have some residual emotional connection to his former colleagues but his loyalty now is to the government.
One thing I do admire. He's consistently said he doesn't want to be PM, and when he had the chance (when Purnell resigned) he didn't take it.

Re: Alan Johnson MP Or Alan Johnson CWU Same Man Now or NOT ?
Alan Johnson is definately on Alan johnson side he knows that he stands a good chance of being the next prime minster if as expected the Labour Party force Brown out before Christmas. This was the talk of the labour party confernce in the bars and corridors. Remember the MPs in marginals ( most wards at the moment ) will panic if the polls continue to show such a tory lead.
With regards to Johnson I have mixed feelings on him , certainly he helped us defeat 1994 privitisation proposal by the then tory government and he was a good speaker and had a good brain and was a good negotaitor. But he had no bottle and tried to bounce this union into the employee agenda. It was only as result of an activist conference held at the TUC that we forced the then executive to oppose the then employee agenda and then to ballot for strike action.
Plus Alan Johnson is largely repsonible for the unions commercial freedom policy which led to the Postal Services bill which led to Post comm and the increased competition into the Postal Services. Funny enough he wrote the paper when he was our general secreatry and then was the minster who put it through the House of commons.

Re: Alan Johnson MP Or Alan Johnson CWU Same Man Now or NOT ?
He doesn't want to be the next PM - he wants Dave Snooty, or Nick Clegg to have that job.....in the meantime, Brown will have been booted out ( before the election, then AJ will wait for someone else to get the job and be the sacrifical lamb at the polls, after the election, well the way will be clear for him to slide smoothly into position ). He's been a canny operator since joining the cabinet, made the right noises, at the right times and kept his head down when he needed to - he's blotted his book this weekend, but he is still smarter ( or cunning ) than any of the current shower. The question that should have been asked is not "Do you want to be the next PM?" but "Do you want to be the next Labour PM?"Turpin wrote:MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM Bit more to it then that I fancy like you say he's on Alan Johnson side he just knew it would not be the brightest move there was nothing moral about it ! Smoker jim you obviously didt know Alan Johnson !! Just because he says he dose not want to be prime minster does not mean he is telling the truth. His name is the one all the blarites and now even those loyal to Brown are now saying is the answer. Knowing Johnson he wont refuse and he knows that he wont get a better chance to be leader.
He cant wait until after the General Election as milliband will become the faviourte.

Re: Alan Johnson MP Or Alan Johnson CWU Same Man Now or NOT ?
Johnson as GS is before my time as opg, but short of all the turkeys in this country voting for Xmas / Labour at the next election, Brown is going to be the fall guy - the post mortem is probably going to include that Labour has moved too far from it's working class roots.....Milliband ( unlike Johnson ) doesn't have a lot in his past to suggest working class boy made good.......personally, he comes across as too slick, too Blair-ish for my liking -but thats just my own opinion. I'll have a little bet with you now, that Johnson becomes the next Labour leader ( how about a stake of a bag of crisps or a pint of beer? )dingo wrote:Smoker jim you obviously didt know Alan Johnson !! Johnson has to stick to the offical government view point or resign from government, however that dose not mean he is not free to express his views to the cabinet/government/PM. Thats the way governmnets tend to work, collective responsibilty.
The question is is he expressing views and what are they?

Re: Alan Johnson MP Or Alan Johnson CWU Same Man Now or NOT ?
Many of us can remember AJ in the 80's when he was first on the EC and became very popular with most activists. Sadly, he is no longer that person or anything like him. His departure under the clouded argument about whether he had agreed via a handshake, to the introduction of yet another very unpopular agreement gave him the chance to become MP in the safest seat in the country.
His rise through the ranks has left him outside our interest zone and although I would like to think he still has an affection for the blue army - as his good friend John Taylor - used to call us frankly I doubt it. Voice an opposite opinion in the Cabinet with Mandy sitting there? Its anybody's guess but I reckon not, even if asked as the obvious expert on the matter.
His ability to stay below the parapit, except for the current storm in a teacup, is legendary so don't hold your breath expecting any help from him. I like many others sought and got his support in a number of problems and was proud to be associated with him but I prefer people who respect their roots.
Embittered? Too bloody right
