it will b the 1st saturday i'll have off in 6 months. A customer was suprised when i told her this. Another reason for the action i told her, u try living with 6 day week as norm, no overtime 4 doing 2-4 hours extra! Point is i am not even in the union. Looking forward to the lie in!

cheers m8. Im a RM casual on a rolling 3 month contract,but they wont make me permanent, just happy to keep renewing it. Thats why i didnt join, even though they sent me the papers. May b its better to join online cos of the strike lol!

You should still join though templek. If you are on a rolling 3 month contract doing the same job for over a year they should be making you permanent. A union can help you fight for your rights.

enjoyed the lie in. Yesterday a manager asked me to work friday night/ sat morning I asked if the strike had been called off? he said it wasnt and I said no way!

One thing, being a union member, would I have to man the picket the lines and not have a lie in? Do you have to attend all meetings etc or is it for the reps mainly?

No one HAS to man the picket lines - we do not as a union, force anyone into actions that they may be uncomfortable with or object to - unlike our employers. You will probably find though that you will get a great deal out of the experience - manning a picket is a great social event, and gives you a chance to talk to colleagues that you may not meet in the course of your normal duties. A picket lasts from a few hours to a whole strike period depending on circumstances and attendance is often arranged by a rep on a rota basis if strict rules are applied to meet legislation or on a more casual, visit when you can basis when the situation is more relaxed or the local managers are less aggressive.
