Union has double standards in leeds
i have been a delivery postman for 22 years, this summer we were told by RM that we had to absorb walks, we had a meeting with all staff and agreed that we would not do this, then the unit rep and the area rep told us we had to do absorption work, i understand London cwu have had localised strikes over this why are the union in leeds agreeing to this we all work for the same company and have the same union why are we on strike?

Lack of backbone from your unit and area reps I would think. Might be time to challenge the position of the reps in question and give them a break from the job they are supposed to be doing!!! ( Like listening to their members)
All the best to the GOOD men and women in Leeds. Remember, you are the union!!!

Re: Union has double standards in leeds
Where i work we were told we had to lose 5 duties on my shift, the rep sat there in the meeting wtl telling us everything was all above board there was nothing we could do about it & that there was nothing in the 'Way Forward' etc that said they couldnt impose the sort of changes they (management) were planning ?? 2 weeks later the same rep sat in the room wtl meeting telling us the complete opposite & that we were applying for a ballot for industrial action ??
Now i always smelt a rat, i was furious - the changes/savings they wanted & seemed to have agreed with our reps blessings had a very strange smell about it, especially so soon after our last RTD duty revision & sign up ?? That was the first we'd had in nearly 10 years at our office ?? This is a case of the reps getting too friendly with management, too many perks & looking after themselves. HQ had told the branch months previously 'NOT TO ENGAGE IN ANY COST CUTTING EXERCISES' as there was no agreement for this. Yet they still went ahead with it, in the pursuit of what they hoped might get a bonus payment of say £100 a man ??
For christ sakes, do you value your job at a 'HUNDRED QUID' ?? Instead we got nothing for the losses !!!
Once HQ got a smell of this the reaction was "WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON AT THIS OFFICE ??"
The CWU are not totally innocent in this, Back The Strikes - its all about us
They got us into this, now weve got to fight it.

Re: Union has double standards in leeds
In my opinion the Union should not of discussed the amount of changes/cuts/savings & how they could achieve it without getting an agreement on how it would affect those left behind to pick up the pieces or those displaced etc...
I saw it as though certain reps took out personal vendetta's against certain individuals for whatever the reason & accomodating those that were more on the xmas card list if get my gist ?? & I know so.
Now ive done over 20 years, but that counts for nothing if your not in the 'Mafia'.
They should of told management "if you want 5 duties, you do realise we will have to ballot our members", not go in there saying "these are our proposals".

absorption
Whooooo there,it's in the P&M agreement subject to local negoations.
It's something you have to do but RM are abusing it.
In lon we have/had no local agreements because of various things.
Your area should of had negoations on it.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
