Crossing of picket line

I just need someone to clarify something for me.
I am a bag drop and packet driver and will be on strike on Fri, but to do my delivery
I and all other van drivers in my office have to pick our vans up from the mail centre which is striking
on Thursday. So will we be classed as crossing picket lines.
I am not sure how it works, Our Rep or managers have not informed us either way.

Probably a stupid question i know.

You should be fine - it's your turn Friday. They should allow you through.

Someone asked a likewise question in the union room forum and was given this advice by a site member which is spot on.



The only way that rolling strikes can work is if we keep our discpline. So that does mean when you are not out on strike on the thursday that picket lines are stood down and vice versa on the friday. In London we have done this on a number of occasions in order to keep the dispute legal.

We still have a massive backlog in London and rolling strikes are a very effective toll providing they are often and people recognise that we have to stand down picket lines to allow those on strike on a different day to cross otherwise we end up with a number of indivudals off pay and the threat of an injuction stopping further strike action and the risk of unofficial action

If enough colleagues decide to scab and cross our union picket lines, we will be defeated, and the job, well, the job really will go to hell in a handcart faster than we can say, "thanks a lot, strike breakers."

But, I believe that the vast majority of our colleagues are made of much stronger stuff, than strike breakers who are in the very same league as all those waynekerrs in the occupied countries of Europe, and our own Channel Islands, who collaborated with the Nazis during world war 2.

Consequently, even if there are more than one Judas among our ranks, they will be few, we will be many, and we will emerge from this dispute ultimately victorious.

Boys dont worry about other so called postmen crossing picket lines ,what i did last strike is and will do this time .Iremember who went in :lfo and when the managment made changes that affected them and they started crying i just reminded them THEY AGREED TO IT simple

At our reps meeting we, as reps were advised that people should be allowed to cross the line if they so wish. Maybe a flier handed over to them as they cross. Royal Mail are awaiting with baited breath just for such an occurrence where one of the people goes running to their managers with tales of being verbally abused, threatened etc whilst crossing the picket line and you would be leaving yourself wide open from RM.

He is right - Its against the law to use intimidation or name calling to try and stop someone crossing a picket line now. You are allowed to point out the issues and discuss it with them, but you are not allowed to physically stop them or impede their process.
