union gave royal mail an inch and they took a mile, hopefully the negotiating team for the union have learnt there lesson

I just hope that the Union executive don't fall for the Royal Mail tricks & games as many of us on these forums have been expecting.
Just yesterday, as we predicted, after they have steamrollered as much as they possibly could before the vote result announcement, we hear in the press,
Royal Mail today condemned the CWU’s plan for a national strike, pointing out that it would drive customers away from the business and undermine confidence in the entire postal services industry. The company said nearly 60% of postmen and women did not vote for strike action (didn't take long for that stastistic to be used to try and fool the public!) and Royal Mail urged the union to honour its repeated commitment to a no-strike period and accept that there is no going back on change.
(Remember the powerpoint presentation given to explain the cycle of acceptance of the workers given to the senior management about first stage being anger etc ........ finishing off with then they will accept it as they will think that as there is no going back on change so they may as well make the best of it! )

And then on the radio we hear from the operations director,
"It is clearly reprehensible for the union to continue to hold strikes when Royal Mail is not planning any further efficiency changes for the rest of the 2009 calendar year and the priority facing everyone in Royal Mail is to deliver the best possible service to customers in the run up to Christmas. We have held more than 70 meetings with the CWU over the last few months and we call on them now to stop the strikes, get back round the table and talk."

The bit that he failed to add would be something like this,
"And after we have spent out massive Christmas bonuses on the backs of these Idiots falling for that one, we'll start pissing all over them again in January as they'll probably be skint after the festive period"

Christmas is coming - combine that with the amount of competition for packets and bulk business mail and the CWU is in a very strong position. RM cannot afford us to strike at Christmas, they'll never get through the backlog and most of it will be useless by the time it's delivered anyway.

The CWU will never have a better chance to come away with a good deal, if they bugger this up they are totally finished.
