No strike deal should now be withdrawn!!!

The 3 month no strike deal to Royal Mail (for meaningful negotiations) in my opinion should now be withdrawn as it has been on the table for long enough, what worries me now is they will take this deal to see us past xmas and then carry on as they please afterwards - this is now not acceptable.
We were also told today that if we do not complete our dutys - even if it means working past our time - we will not get paid for our days work, if this is not bullying then I dont know what is, the threat of no pay to make you work for free is disgusting but I would like to know the law on this issue if anyone knows?

damn i did mine in 10.2 on crutches though.i just hope that there is transparency regards these talks and that royal mail do not make "closed offers" which happened alot in 2007.

Where was your CWU rep?

1 - take that through bullying and harrasment helplines

2 - tell the local papers they expect you to work for no pay.

3 - i recall a thread some weeks back about illegal witholding of wages on here, and how RM are in breach of the law if they do that to you. Hopefully a keener board member than i can direct you to that.

I agree about your original proposition. We should be going to the media saying we've offered to suspend strikes for months but RM aren't interested. RM obviously want strikes and your mail to be delayed.

RM may want to accept this deal on the first of October get Christmas sorted and then continue executive action on 1st Jan.

they cant do that, as long as you do your job properly and at a reasonable speed they cannot do anything if you dont want to work past your time.

Royal mail withholding pay is not a cut and dry case as they do so because they believe that you are working slowly and therefore are in breach of contract. We have seen wide spread use of this tactic in London and it is intended to create a climate of fear.

It is easy for indivduals to say i will take them to the cleaners but its not as simple as that as you have to take the matter to a tribunal and that can take up to twelve months as it is a complex case especially as it normally involves a group of indivduals.

The CWU took Royal Mail to a tribunal over the withholding of over 20 staffs pay and Royal Mail settled in the tribunal but it was 13 months after the event.

It is one of the reasons why we can not ballot for a work to rule , but we can legally do the job properly.

Now in terms of a period of calm why are people getting so worked up over it. Fact is that Royal mail cannot afford a lengthy period of calm and definately not 3 months. Its a tactic to win the public over and to appear to be reasonable in our demands.

However if Royal Mail come back and said we want a month of no stirkes and in return they will not implement any more executive action and will resolve the units where they have implemented executive action and they will continue with negotations on phase 4 then tell me what would be wrong with that ?

Certainly in London we have taken 12 days out with two more announced and part of any resolution must be resolving the place where they have taken executive action as well a national agreement. If Royal Mail were to offer this in return for a period of calm then surely that is a good thing.

Dingo, I have the upmost respect on most of your postings but when your employer threatens you with no pay after completing your contracted hours why the hell should anyone show any respect to them. Dont forget these orders have come from the very top :cfo
I also feel the no strike deal should be withdrawn and the cwu should be doing more on the frontline to reject the spin this lot are telling the public, like striking for pay, rejecting modernisation etc.
We have come this far so lets not fall for any crap on the run up to xmas, I for one will only be doing my 8 hour day during pressure even if extra incentives where on the table.

RMl have accepted that what consitiutes a fair days work needs to be worked out.

The strikes are in response to Ex action, RML walking away from phase 4 and RML insisting we absorb more than there was time avaialable with threats to take away pay, resolve/stop those and in theroy no need for stikes.

However its clear there is no trust from the rank and file members to RML who want to see the dispute more throughly resolved before calling off strike action.

Hooper said mondernisation cannot happen through conflict or attrition, RML are ignoring that!!!
