This is starting to sound like the same crap we had to put up with 2 years ago.
The CWU needs to make up it's mind, We either go all the way and STRIKE or if not don't ballot us for Action.
This sort of talk just Pi$$es people off and in the end people will become so demoralized that only the most determined will take action,
Have the CWU learnt anything from 2007...........Lets just get it on and get it F^*king sorted one way or another.

Agree 100%. This is what I'm expecting to happen. A landslide 'Yes' vote turned into piecemeal delaying tactics by RM to get them through the Christmas-period industrial action-free.

I think Billy & Dave had better realise that the 2007 pay & modernisation agreement was a right dog's dinner, and the next deal MUST be a good one for us.
I really do believe this dispute is make or break for the CWU. Yet another rotten deal will see a lot of members just come out of the union, purely from sheer frustration, I listen to my colleagues in my office, and other London offices, and they won't be able to stomach another bad deal.
What the CWU must avoid, is that feeling that now exists between Labour and it's once core voters, existing between union and member.

A "truce" is not a result.RM have just guaranteed their Christmas period at no cost to themselves
and will be ready on Jan 1st
to resume executive action .
Lets not forget many walks are still in chaos because of Pegasus revisions and hybrid duties etc have already been pushed through,
a step back is what some of us require needless to say summer savings overtime bans etc must stop !
many offices will think that three months is to long to wait for much needed change.

If its a YES ( and it will be! ) the we should strike one day a week on a rotation until all Exec action has been WITHDRAWN everywhere within RM, NO TALKS until they step back. Then and ONLY then should we meet them and come to an agreement.

You CANNOT have one office in London or Scotland ect. under exec action cuts and another office without the cuts while talks proceed!

The union shouldn't call off the strike until they have a good deal on the table. If they call a 3 month strike without a good deal i'll withdraw from the union and won't support any strikes.
As a reserve getting treated like **** isn't fun.

the 2 weeks run up to christmas they should be the strike days, hit royal mail were it hurts. No point in Jan 2010

Look Royal Mail have rejected the 3 month no strike deal which included no executive action and resolution to the places where executive action has been imposed.

They have also rejected a two week halt in strike action and executive action.

However it is a good tactic to use with the media as Royal Mail contiue to duck this issue. If Royal Mail pick it up what do we lose ? We stop executive action and resolve the areas where they imposed it already, and allow a period of detailed negotatons.

The fact is the negotations on the future are complex and are likely to be lengthy , so the question is if Royal Mail accept the above would that be such a bad thing providing they resolve the imposed revisons. We keep them under pressure as they cannot meet their budgets as they cannot introduce revisons by executive action and that will mean they do not meet their targets.

The alternative is that we contiue with strikes during the negotations and them imposing change. Now we in London and other places have done that for the last 3 months, will all the UK membership be prepared to do the same for possibly 3 months this thats the unanswersed question.

So its not a clear cut answer. But at the moment it is ilrelvant as Royal Mail have said they cannot afford to stop their programme of change which includes executive action for any period.

Are they playing with fire, because they are not looking very professional by announcing a cooling off period. The members including myself will not be happy with an outcome like this. The reason for paying a subscription towards the cwu is so as we can get out of this mess, and come to some sort of achievable agreement.

The CWU has offered a three-month no-strike deal in return for negotiations and a suspension of the current changes which are forcing postal workers into industrial action. Change is a reality with modernisation of the company. The combined challenge of competition, pensions and the need to adapt to a rapidly changing world of communications makes change necessary.
Royal Mail's current approach clearly isn't working so we're seeking intensive talks to establish a national agreement that will pave the way for rolling out the change that the company desperately needs.
