Not management in an official sense as we are independent of Royal Mail and the Union. We are a grass roots postal forum with Posties and Management contributing. Ask your question and we may be able to help.

Well, im just a bit confused really. As a taxpayer and someone who loyally uses RM - where has the £1.2 billion (that i partly contrributed towards) gone? Or the amazing machines they were meant to buy? I mean, did management not insist that they were going to increase efficiancy - but as of yet they have not been installed. Is this not why they are now holding staff to ransom? If you have not bought these machines you wanted - can we have our money back please?

Hi concerned the £1.2 billion has probably been paid to the managers as the bonuses they are paid are obscene. I think the machines you are talking about are us posties as we are being treated like robots. You will be very lucky to get an answer from RM and if you do, take it with a large pinch of salt. Us posties are all going down with salt poisoning as we have to take so many pinches of it. :arrrghhh

RM in their infinite wisdom thought they could buy machines off the peg , if you will , it wasn't quite possible . Now they are looking for the savings that they would have made with the machines , very much the cart before the horse .

You have to forget about conventional logic , common sense , perspective and proportion with RM - it's always been the sort of organization that would make cardboard submarines , all politics unfortunately ! :arrrghhh

RM have planning managers but they don't really do planning . Many want sacking so they can run whelk stalls :chuckle .

I suggest you write to that idiot called the PM maybe he knows were its gone didnt leighton get a 1.2 billion golden hand shake from Royal Mail as a big thank you for destroying the business.
Elmar Toime got a £500,000 for " personalty clashes " with :lfo - it surprised me as I didn't think it was possible . Basically they are to keep people sweet so they don't blow the gaff about even more embarrassing things .

The old Civil Service types got big pay offs too for cock ups like Consignia , buying up parcel companies for a million and selling them back for a tenner and the Horizon Disaster .
:cfo lacks the expertise to run a postal operation according to Hooper and :mfo says RM's senior managers have genetic deficiencies but he still paid :cfo £3 million and huge bonuses for his subordinates .

This thread may help "concerned" http://www.royalmailchat.co.uk/communit ... ord+Clarke" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

and from the lead article in the thread
Politicians are also puzzled about plans for the equipment. During a House of Lords debate on Royal Mail, Labour’s Lord Clarke said: “I have made exhaustive inquiries but no one can tell me where these machines are.”

Royal Mail had not responded as Tribune went to press.
so its looks as though your in esteemed company in wanting to know what RM are doing or perhaps not doing.

As to the original question I would think that only the lower tier of management would come on here openly, plenty probably "lurk" and report to their master but none above local mangers actually do step out of the shadows.

The people who you want to speak to are probably sipping their first bottle of "bolly" complaining how late their mail was today. :Very Happy

Arrghhhh......i could lock Mandelsona and Crozier in a room for a few hours to talk to i would be a very happy lady
I really honestly feel that any government want anyone who is 'working class' to just go on benefites. It isnt good enough to want to work anymore, you have to want to be greedy. Privatisation was meant to benefit everyone - owners needed the workers and vica versa. Not anymore - they just want less workers and more money these people. The only consolation i have is that people like Mandelson, Crozier, Leighton, Mps, CEO and bankers must be very very very empty and lifeless people - thats why they crave money so much as they have nothing else in their lives to make them happy.

very much leaders and followers , the followers being kept firmly in their place . There is a Pro EEC , big business agenda called Common Purpose , in a nutshell it's anti democratic , wanting countries to be governed by EU Directives rather than it's own sovereignty . Cameron is a big fan , you only have to listen to all that wooly B/S to realize that ; and they want people softened up for it .

The problem with Mandy is that his tentacles stretch far and wide . A horrible slimy man . Crozier was a hired hand to increase the value of RM , as to why ..........?

As far as I know half of this money has been spent, there is a rumour that these purchased machines are sitting in a warehouse somewhere but cant confirm this.

They are waiting for the machines that they really need to be invented and in truth they proberly never will be! You see they first and formost need a sequencing machine that can do the job for the UK postal market that can sequence A4 flats, magazines, small packets, large letters and small letters so that when it is delivered to the delivery office you take the sorted bundles of mail and place in a bag and away you go delivering with NO sorting needed in the delivery office. The machines they have cant do this! They sequence a % of mail but when it gets to a delivery office it has to be placed in a frame by hand the same as it is done now and then and then hand sorted mail packets A4 flats ect are placed by hand in the correct address point by your Postman and that kind of defeats the object of the machines i think? The worst thing about these inefficient machines i believe is the mail still has to go through all the old machines first before it is put through these new machines up to Three times by One opererator when they require Two for the volume of mail that they need to sequence. So what you get for your billions of pounds is another tier of machinery giving you a slower later start for your Posties, later mail for you and a clear case of greedy fools trying to cover their bottoms at your Posties and you the publics expence so the UK dont see what morons we have in charge of Royal Mail.

I think ? the Dutch system is based on nice clean mail envelopes , then packets , flats , catalogues & parcels are apparently delivered separately and it's supposed to be slow , just two or three times a week :hmmmm . RM say the Dutch system which is their blueprint , is adapted but ......

Some parcel companies just blitz areas in one day , then stuff has to wait for the next time .

None of these other firms will not touch (or prefer not to) packets , flats and parcels as there's no money in it unless they can put the prices up considerably , RM don't do joined up thinking , end of , there's a lot of blue sky thinking as Linkin Park says but we all know what happens with that :hmmmm .

The mistake RM make with these European operations is that they confuse competitiveness ( whatever that means ) and " efficiency " with profitability . RM just shifted mail subsidized by banking etc mail once , the European companies businesses are far more diverse , mail is just part of their business . However RM think they should make the same profits as them . Square pegs in round holes , even the union bashing Hellmail site admit that .

Proof (if proof were needed) that canteen "experts" can't be relied on to know what they're talking about. Poor old Links clearly hasn't a clue about RM automation or what can/cannot be processed.
Still, Bognor are due to get two soon,so perhaps they should contact their neighbours in SOMC and ask how well they work. Should be an eye-opener........... :hmmmm

So what types of Mail CAN be processed by the machines?
