Dream of being out the door for 8.15 mate, our area agreement is 0600 start 14.15 finish, delivery start 10.15 , and get a rest week(every 6th) rather than day off mid week. Interesting start time indeed.

Re: 30 hour ag lapsing
I'm a 30hr AG, start at 6.30 finish at 12.30. Takes me 2 hours to prep my walk, 15 mins out, 3.5 hrs delivery and 15 mins back. My office didn't lapse this year but did last year and AG's were not required to do it. The whole point of lapsing was to 'utilize' the full amount of 'spare time' on full time duties, what with falling mail volumes and increased mechanisation and automation that the traditional summer lull offers. OK that last part was a lie, it was to stiff the guys and save them a bucket load of cash for their bonuses.manc_daddy wrote:Hi i was just wondering if this is a national thing as im expected arrive at work work for 7am and have to be out the door for 8.15 am and expected to throw off my walk which has 675 calls bundle it up etc and then take out another 5 of the walk and expected to do that in 75 mins .

Re: 30 hour ag lapsing
my office did lapsing for 2 days a week but management broke local agreement and imposed further lapsing , our own fault as we added break onto end of duty and went home giving the impression of gaining time. End result is we do not lapse, take our full break and have hand to hand pouches etc. Area Manager not happy as all now return at 1400 ish and his 2 day savings lost and paying overtime in addition.

Re: 30 hour ag lapsing
We don't leave the office now until 9.30 earliest and are out at as late as 11.30 on busy days. 20 mins is spent arguing with the managers over whether ur over your time. They refuse to accept that u get 15 mins break and 15 mins pouching off time at the end. There are times when I go home and burst into tears now because of how cruel things are. I mean, I don't have much confidence and I back down when im pressured into taking my whole walk and my lapsing and refused overtime.
Is this how things have become?

Re: 30 hour ag lapsing
If that is an instruction from management to take your break at the end of your working day then they are breaking the law: http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Employment/ ... G_10029451" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;manc_daddy wrote:were supposed to take meal breaks at the end of the walk and doesnt help when since the lapsing of walks in our office they taken out 10 duties and there walks we are lapsing and these are permanant chages and dont know whats gonna happen when autumn pressure kicks in as mail is slowy increasing as it is
Rest breaks - a break during your working day
If you are an adult worker (that is, over 18), you will normally have the right to a 20 minute rest break if you are expected to work for more than six hours at a stretch.
A lunch or coffee break can count as your rest break. Additional breaks might be given by your contract of employment. There is no statutory right to 'smoking breaks'.
The requirements are:
* the break must be in one block
* it cannot be taken off one end of the working day - it must be somewhere in the middle
* you are allowed to spend it away from the place on your employer's premises where you work
* your employer can say when the break must be taken, as long as it meets these conditions

Re: 30 hour ag lapsing
Spot on Teebs,i've mentioned this before, however you'll never find anything in writing from
RM to say you have to take your break at the end of the duty,it's been convienent for both
sides for this to happen, especially under SDD (job and finish)
In our D.O. breaks are not even scheduled, built into the delivery.
But to answer the original question,
Everyone would be expected to lapse,(if possible)no matter what your contractual hours,
it's assumed that traffic has fallen acrosss the entire office, and not just on certain walks.
As all walks are timed at 3 1/2 hours, if RM are too be believed you should have time to
complete your own duty and an element of another within this time.
On 30 hours,it depends whats been agreed locally,i mean do you work 6 hours everyday
or do your daily hours vary?
Assuming it's 6 hours, you would certainly be expected to prep the majority of your walk,
it all depends if you are the cover man or not.
Ask for a breakdown of your duty,or what was your 318.

Re: 30 hour ag lapsing
This has been the heaviest 'light summer' I can remember. We have not had the capacity to lapse, luckily we didn't have it imposed. As said earlier and confirmed that RM are continuing Summer Lapsing into the Autumn Pressure period, it has nothing to do with how easy deliveries are supposed to be over the summer, it's all about saving money, nothing else.
