food for thought with the upcoming strike ballot

just received this -------Dear Colleagues

You will begin to receive info from both the Union and Royal Mail. You could be forgiven for trying to ignore it , but we would ask that you do not do this.

Whether we like it or not RM do have a strong vision that does not involve :

1. Pay rises - they state that we are 25% overpaid according to the rate for the job. In other words, cut your pay by 25% and you would probably still turn up to work for them.

2. Bonuses other than for managers - they state that no bonus will be paid for you working harder / making savings. Only managers are to be incentivised in future which is why DOMs have just got up to £4000 and Sector Managers up to £9000.

3.No more FT employment for the most part. Virtually all new staff are PT. There is an extremely important role for PT staff , but many would like to go FT in the future. This is not RMs position. FT employment is not likely to happen in future if they get their way.

4. No more national agreements - RM are fast moving towards no more national deals with your Union. This is about changing the whole culture of the industry. This is why the National Agreement following the dispute in 2007 is not being completely broken and deliberately so. think about it for a moment - no union , just RM telling you what you will do.

5. Pensions - they are actively looking to close the Pension Scheme. We expect an announcement might be made during the national ballot timetable as a way of trying to scare and frighten people into voting No.

The Union really are doing everything we possibly can to avoid the dispute which is why we have offered them a 3 month no strike deal to sort out all the major issues. To date they have refused this offer.

Oh and one last thing, yes we have met RM about 50 times ! each time though the same message comes back - nothing to talk about because we are doing nothing wrong, but we will meet you to tell you this as many times as you want ! Cheers for that !

My point is we've been striking for around 6 weks now and still have another month to go before the national ballot takes place. after that another couple of weeks for the counting then a week or 2 till the first strike dates take place. we're lossing money now and having no effect because the union is f**king useless

Scotland have been out for longer and other offices are coming online every week so we are going to be out with you but in my last union meeting it was announced that this dispute won't be won in just a few strikes, it's going to be a long (and quite dirty) dispute.
