With all the uproar going on with full-timers maybe going part time so thats one of the reasons for strike, will the part timers gain anything from this strike becase its very unlikely they are going to get the chance to go full time if they want? Because from where im lying in my bed i cant see what I am going to gain from these strikessss??

 Rest assured--even part time workers are not safe. you can almost bet that through time even your hours will be reduced, and your terms and conditions be changed beyond regognition.

Will the part timers even want to strike? If I took a PT job it would be because those were the only hours I could work. I would never take a PT job in the hope it might be made up to FT hours, whats the point in that?! Just look for a FT job...

in my office, the part timers are only part time because rm will not offer a full time contract. they are a thing of the past my friend. why get them in for a full 8 hours when they can spread us really thin and blagg it so they can shave 2 hours off every day??

:Applause :Applause Well said Geezer, I'm part-time and I will also definitely be out when the time comes - we have to fight for our futures as one unit it shouldn't be part-timers against full-timers it should be us as a workforce against RM.

I have highlighted the bit where you answered your own question. If by striking we keep the current ratio or come to an acceptable agreement on how many Full timer positions there are to part timers then just by natural wastage you have more or a chance of getting a FT duty than if we don't strike and allow RM to choose the ratio based on savings rather than service.

In most offices the only difference between Full & Part Time is a job title! Most of our PTers are doing Full Time duties, mainly because they wanted a Full Time slot and were only offered PT. They do the hours because they want the money, and to be honest the office needs them to do those hours. There's more work than Posties :arrrghhh

Perhaps RM thought the PTers would not be as bothered as the FTers, but most have now signed up to the Union and I believe they will vote YES! They get s**t on as much as the next postie, but perhaps don't feel as much a part of the office as the Older Full Timers.

Agree we're all in it together, and need to stop slagging each other off :mad Perhaps the CWU should try and get rid of these ever increasing Part Time contracts as part of it's long term strategy, personally I don't think they give a s**t :no no

Cheers :wave

I'm part time and waiting for my ballot paper.
Part time or full time, you're just a number to RM, and if RM get their way, lots more full timers will find out how difficult it can be surviving on part time wages. Luckily for me my wages do not make up the bulk of my family's income, but the same cannot be said for most people.
With regards to the initial post, it's not what we can achieve we are concerned about, rather what we stand to lose.
