FT's let out while PT's still prepping
This can't be happening in our office only???
Part timers are comming in at 8am usually to an empty frame - fair enough you might say but their Full Time collegues are sometimes finishing off their own flats by then or certainly have a lot of mail thrown in. So from the off the part timers are playing catch-up.
So come right of way off go the full timers and the part timers still aren't ready to go for another 10-30 mins. The problem with this is all the deliveries are 3 1/2 hours so basically part timers are getting less time to do the same ammount of delivery work.
To add insult to injury part timers have an earlier finish time than the full timers - DESPITE GETTING OUT LATER!!!
So Is it fair that for the SAME ammount of outside work some workers get shorter hours/less pay???
Do we need this issue integrated into a NA?

This has been going on for the last 2 years for me, it's made worse by the fact we use shared vans now.
Run, rabbit run. Dig that hole, forget the sun.
And when at last the work is done. Don't sit down, it's time to dig another one

Re: FT's let out while PT's still prepping
Thats been happening since I started
I start at 8am and very often the full timers are tying up by 8.30 , you then get moaned at by the guys doing the bag drops cos they are having to wait on what they consider to be the `slow` people . . . . . . . . I don`t know any FT`s who can prep and bag off in 30 mins
Have said it before , the part timers usually always work their hours but the FT`s can often make time
To be fair , in my office there are peeps who will help out but I have to say the majority just leg it out the door . Its quite funny though when these individuals are behind for whatever reason , how much they rant about being left behind and expect something to be done about it

Re: FT's let out while PT's still prepping
As i am to understand the full time staff are to do the IPS and some are to be used to do the prep on part time walk, part time staff should come in to just do the odds and ends like Redirections,Deads,Bag up ready to go while the full time staff are preping the last bit of their walk and bagging to get ready to go,part time staff are only really there to deliver i think thats how the theory of this new mess is suppose to go.I will only add to that it will only work if you all make it work but you all have to be on the same wave length and all deliverys would have to be equal in work load,of course the fairy of dreams lives in a yard near you

How the f**k did the union ever allow this sort of thing to happen.opgpat wrote:This can't be happening in our office only???

Re: FT's let out while PT's still prepping
Nearly all part timers come in early in my office and quite a few even come in before the full timers. Some are coming in 1 to 1 1/2 hours BEFORE their duty is scheduled to start
One particular lady who does this is standing around for at least an hour waiting for the missorts to arrive and spends most of that time moaning why she has to wait about when she could be out delivering , much to the annoyance of everyone else.
She has been told by lots of people to come in at her proper start time, then by the time she has thrown out and prepped up the missorts would have arrived then she could go straight out on to delivery but it's like

Re: FT's let out while PT's still prepping
In our office, part timers are coming in to frames already prepped by full timers who should be on IPS with the few other FT staff who now have to sort twice as much! So the part timers get a flyer fresh as daisies and the FT staff are knackered before they get out. If they are doing the same amount of work for shorter hours and less pay - that is their own fault - they are breaking health and safety rules or not claiming for extended delivery they are due. If the work fits within their hours - no problem !!!opgpat wrote:This can't be happening in our office only???

Re: FT's let out while PT's still prepping
The only difference between the full time and part time contracts should be the amount if indoor work they do, depending on their contract they may not do ips or they may not prep their own delivery. Always put the onus back on your manager start on your time work safely take your breaks, if you are out later inform your manager whether you can't complete or you want the overtime, tough times ahead maybe but be strong.

Re: FT's let out while PT's still prepping
The problem with that is not all PT workers are on 30 hours. We have PT'ers on contracts ranging from 1,5,20 up to 30 so it's all messed up. The 30 hours basically do the same as a FT worker, except no IPS (which winds up the FT staff) while the 20 just do delivery i.e. no prep or IPS.soltan wrote:The only difference between the full time and part time contracts should be the amount if indoor work they do, depending on their contract they may not do ips or they may not prep their own delivery. We have FTers preppring rounds, when they should be doing IPS and when it gets busy MANAGERS prepping rounds grrrrr

Our office is the same the part-timers get walked all over and the full-timers seem to do what they please..
Also p/t go out bursting every morning about 8 till 9ish while the f/t are meant to be prepping the walks but they go for there breaks..
Defo needs to be sorted into the national agreement, but the cwu are not talking part timers seriously, imho..

I know p/t are over a barrel with 1hr, 5hr etc contracts, so knowing full well people can't live on these contracts so whatever work is given they will do. They are between a rock and a hard place cause they need the money and the only way they could possibly have them increased is by showing that what work is expected to be performed can't be in the time given so if your 1 and 5hr people where only to do 10hrs a week their work wouldn't be completed. I know these contracts are morally wrong and empathize with the situation.

There is also the massive problem that they aren't in the union a lot of the time.
