question re: not completing

Post by savo »

My office is mostly rural deliveries, most of the town walks have been lapsed now.

Those of us who do rurals have been told that we have to deliver the section of lapsed town duty allocated to us, before starting our rural deliveries.
This means that anyone who cuts off, has no choice, and has to cut off part of their rural delivery.

This makes no sense to me, as the town walks are obviously close to the office, and it would be a lot easier to arrange for some one to deliver the cut-offs that are nearby office. Most of the rurals are several miles from the office, some in very isolated locations, getting rural cut-offs delivered the same day is a slim chance, and slim has left town..

The cynic inside me thinks that the DOM knows that we are reluctant to let down customers on our own rurals, its a bit different to big town duties as you get to know a lot of the folks very well, so the DOM is playing on this i reckon to pretty much force us to work over, of course the wan*ers who come in an hour early, can get out earlier and get back on time.

So are they allowed to prioritise one customer over another ? Think i will have to contact area rep and see what the score is.

it would be better to stream the entire duty to ensure you make a delivery from a-z eg the whole duty
given the driving on a rual i dont know how well this would work? however streaming the lapsed part may help?

Your right about the DOM wanting you to compleat your delivery, we have the same problem in our office,we have a idea in our place they make you take that out with you and all your delivery in the hope that you will stay out as you are being forced to cut out on your own delivery, managers are hoping that you will stay out so you dont bring any of yours back because you will have to make sure that is done the next day which will mean that another part will have to blow on your delivery the next day if you run out of time, it works out that on some deliverys they are only delivering to parts of thier deliverys every other day,so the final hope is that you get fed up before they do,so you stay out and compleat which in real terms is cheaper to pay you 20-25 mins in o/t than employ another person for a delivery. We are also certain that for all these lapsed walks the managers are saving enough hours to trigger thier bonus as it is based on how many hours that are saved and not on proformance of the managers unit, more hrs saved =higher bonus payment.
