A Posties life is it good exercise or just too much....

Post by krussel »

I ve had a bad few days with my ankles. Last fri whilst on delivery and for no real reason my right ankle seemed to cramp and then started to really hurt sending shooting pains into my calf. I carried on thinking it would get better but by the end i was limping badly. I rested in the afternoon and on Sat it was thanfully a lot better, just an ache. Tried to rest as much as possible on Sunday and was pleased to awake on monday morn without any pain or stiffness :Very Happy Started my walk today (Mon) and the right ankle held firm :dance BUT then my LEFT ankle started to hurt and once again by the time i finished i was limping  . Cant win !

So ok i am in my early 40's and expect the odd twinge here and there but since the extra was put upon the deliveries under SDD i ve really noticed aches and pains getting worse. Also there has been a big jump in people going sick back at the office which is not a good sign.

They used to say that a postman life was good exercise but that was when the deliveries were less than 2 hours, now i am walking for more than 3hr 30 min and starting to think is it doing far more harm than good :cry
Rows of houses all bearing down on me........I can feel their blue hands touching me.......All these things in all positions.........All these things will one day take control..........

Ask for a business referral, make (don't give)ATOS something to do, oh and get an appointment with your GP and explain your problems to them and get yourself started on a course of treatment.

I went to the dr's this morning about the pain in my knee and it was confirmed as a lateral knee injury (Runners Knee), I've now got to be assessed which will take up to 6 weeks. I'll keep dosing myself up with ibuprofen and painkillers before I go out on delivery and hope for the best. Can I ask to see ATOS before my hospital appointment comes through?

Thanks mate :Very Happy Yes i am going to do that if it does not ease by itself. With rest it normally goes away for a while. Its just a bugger to get it both ankles a within a few days of each other though. If both went at the same time i would have no choice but to go off sick

I recently brought this up with an Atos quack at my face to face assessment,I pointed out that many of us Posties are coming down with Plantar Fascitis and Prepatellar Bursitis, 5 in my office alone with these conditions since all the extra work load and the quack said `it wasn`t a big problem!`
To which I replied "Well not if your busy retiring everybody on ill heath grounds eh?"

I use a combination of ibuprofen and co-codamol just to get me through the day but it's just not helping now  still, I'll see what the doctor says  and ask you manager for a referral to ATOS, might as well cost RM something.

Only thing that bothers me with ATOS was when i hurt my back a while ago they seemed reall nice to my face and then went straight ahead and recomended medical retirement if i did not return to full duties within the alloted time scale  . Just like that ! I was lucky that a had a decent DOM (its true) who gave my some inside project work to do (drop box updates) which gave me more time to recover. So i am not keen on ATOS after that :confused .

The first one is an inflamation of the foot below the arches and the heel.

The second is housemaids knee.

Plantar is pain in the foot that usualy stretches from the heel to the middle foot bones.
Prepatellar Bursitis is where the sac that lubricates your knee burst and causes pain...it use to be known as housemaids knee.
Sorry been dealing with Atos far too much these last few weeks! :shhhhh
