I have found out that many people who have left R/M and no longer pay Union dues, still receive ballot papers. I am concerned that many people may vote who have no right to.How much research is done in this area?

As I understand it this was done so that only workplaces who will actually support any strike
action called will be called on to strike. There is no point in calling a generalised strike, if
some offices are not going to support it. Those offices who do not vote for strike action are
likely to get any conditions RM want imposed on them.
This has not happened in national ballots previously - but perhaps it is a tactic which the CWU
should consider using.

The London Branches have been asked to ensure that their membership records are
up to date, over the last few weeks. It isn't an easy task for the Branch Organisers
whose job it is to maintain the membership lists, as London does seem to have a more
transient membership, where people are moving address more often. But I would think
that the London District Committee must be confident that thr Branch records are as
accurate as is possible.

My own main worry is that if a high enough % of people who cast votes they are not entitled too. the outcome of the vote could be completely different to what it should be.

Due to employment laws it will be a workplace ballot so there is no hiding place for any indivudal. A no vote in any office will mean management will target those offices as they will view them as having no back bone to resist Royal Mail`s attacks.

The question on the London ballot paper is designed in such a way that it can be rolled out across the country as it is about stopping Royal Mail breaking national agreements and forcing Royal Mail into an agreement protecting full time jobs in the future as well as pushing our policies forward including the shorter working week.

Wadebridge DO in the Plymouth and East Cornwall Branch were striking today over cuts. 100% support in a small DO of 20 members. Management drafted in yesterday and today yet there is still a backlog.

Well done to the boys and girls down there!!!!

Is there a plan to ballot some of the outer London areas like Enfield?

Heard that staff in EC Delivery Office, part of Mount Pleasant, walked out this morning
after management said they would allocate duties (pick who they want) in an unagreed
resign of duties to commence on 18 May.
They went to the canteen and met with the Area Rep and his Assistant, who asked them
to return to work pending the outcome of the London Ballots, which will be sent out soon.

The Branch wishes to advise you of a serious industrial relations issue
affecting our colleagues in EC Deliveries.

Like Processing and Distribution our colleagues in Delivery received
proposals for a revision of duties designed to produce massive savings -
£1.6 million per year. This entails a reduction of 54 jobs from 362 to 308
ie 15% of all fulltime duties within delivery. Again like Processing and
Distribution management's position is quite clear, that there will be no
share of savings for OPGs. Incidentally, if savings of £1.6 million were
fully shared by all remaining OPGs in delivery this would equate to
almost £100 per week per person. The level of savings in processing
equate to approx £80 per week per person and £55 per week per person
for Distribution.

Management are now in the process of imposing the revision on our
delivery colleagues. Despite, what can only be considered to be
shameful tactics from management, the vast majority of our delivery
colleagues have refused to sign for duties, and are supporting the Union
in its fight to achieve an agreement that protects our future and deals
with change fairly. Management have removed seniority and have
imposed the revision by allocating duties. They have also stated that the
revision will be fully introduced by the 18th May.

There will be round the clock meetings on Tuesday 12th May and we
urge all members to attend.

These revisions will ensure you have to walk at 4 miles per hour.

* Royal Mail wants to remove all 4 day weeks and 9 day fortnights thereby cutting jobs by removing rest day
covers and SA. Staff will be expected to perform a duty which is currently 10 hours in 8 hours or less.

* Royal Mail wants to make Saturdays a longer day despite agreeing to a shorter Saturday under Pay and Modernisation.

* Royal Mail's walk sequencing agenda will mean that 40% of your work will arrive after 10.00 in your office
forcing later starts and more part timers.

* Royal Mail wants to abolish the cap on Door 2 Door and include it into your normal workload without paying you for
it and without agreement.

* Royal Mail wants to reduce walks on a weekly basis in line with traffic fluctuations.

* Royal Mail wants to lay off fixed term contracts.
