CWU pulls out of ALL savings negotiations?

Post by mclovin »

So, whats the point of being in the union if theyre going to give RM what they want?

RM are now free to do whatever they like, including in our office, moving 2 full timers to a different office, therefore they are also allowed to bypass seniority and handpick anyone they like, troublemakers and shirkers more than likely.

When RM bring in their proposals, the Union stance is then going to be well it was nothing to do with us?? Is that the reason??

I believe the thinking behind it is to build up a head of steam to get a strike ballot in as many offices as possible. As a national strategy it may be a good one, however its implementation needs more communication from all tiers of the Union Local Units, Branches, Area, Division and Nationally.

At the moment, locally, we are going through various disagreements with Royal Mail but we feel as though we are fighting alone. If there was more communication, and personal visits from all levels then individual members and units would not feel isolated and therefore under pressure to get the best deal they can.

This is perhaps the main reason why London and Scotland and a few others have been successful in resisting "savings" there appears to be more of a feeling of "solidarity" in these locations than at others. In Huddersfield we did successfully defend ourselves against Lapsing but this was because we have a good committee and as recognised by the Rep, the actions of one particular member in generating resistance among members was particularly effective. However, I cannot blame other units accepting the best deal they can if at some point in the chain from Unit to CWU HQ there is a failure of communication or ability to garner support.

If the CWU is only as strong as its weakest Unit then they need to change their style of communication as quickly as possible. They have good resources going to waste like Facebook. I am a member of that Group and recently there have been questions regarding D2D but the last few updates are about Privatisation or Hooper.

The problem with Facebook and other methods of communication is that all of the traffic is one way, if they want support from the work force and more involvement from them then they have to re-engage them.

All well and good campaigning against national matters but not if you ignore what's happening at local levels as the members whose support you need will feel let down and vote with their feet or ignore instructions as is happening in some units at the moment.

We do need more communication.
I said in another post that the union had gone quiet. It feels at our office as if we don't even have one.
I know they don't usually sit back and let RM do anything they want but lack of info makes it look the case at the moment.

We have been told by the Union rep himself in a meeting earlier this week that they wont be discussing anything to do with savings. And with most offices in our area at stage 2 disagreement, we'll have no representation from the Div Rep, meaning RM can and will do what they want.

Having said that, our DOM said yesterday the negotioations are currently at a stand still due to the unions stance.

Only a matter of time before the wolves take the door off.

Definitely need more communication - there's loads of bits and bobs of information I only ever find out on here.. It seems to me that RM and sh****** DOMs are pushing through whatever they please and (in some places anyway) we are sitting back and taking it like mugs. I'm all for standing up and saying no, enough is enough but faced with an office with a fair portion of lame arse selfish twats with no balls - not easy or pleasant standing up to RM and it's ill-informed money saving ideas without useful backing/information..

IR framework is still being used. I have it in writing from my DOM that he wont lapse SA untill the dissagrement process is complete. Once we get to the end it seems like RML will then take excutive action.

BUT DO R.M MANAGERS CARE ?.THEY GET TOLD BY THEIR SUPERIORS " IMPLEMENT THESE CHANGES OR WE WILL REPLACE YOU WITH SOMEONE WHO WILL!!". SCARY ISNT IT. ROYAL MAIL 2009. OUR NEW DUTIES START ON TUESDAY. I understand in some Offices, negotiations on lapsing and pegasus revisions have been withdrawn as the Union have been told we are not getting a pay rise this year.

Is that correct ?, bit cheeky of RM to use the Credit Crunch to stop our Pay rise.

Tuesday in our office the managers are forcing in changes doing away with walks altogether adding them to other delivery's,like above it is so obvious that these walks can not be done.Town staff have been picked at every time with you can cut more hours there they are taking the mick. The do as i say toward managers is right to we have had most of our managers replaced by others because the other managers could not make it work, believe you me the lot we have now are even bigger bullies than the last lot.The union Rep has now put in a disagreement asking for the status to remain the same until we can come to a level ground which is fair and right for all.
Not looking forward to it all on Tuesday.

Been off this week so do not know what they intend for our office. I do know that the proposals they gave are unworkable and the cuts are driven only by further savings with no evidence to back them up. The local union position is that we are not going to sort their mess out for them again - so if they want to up the stakes by executive action then it is their choice. We will ballot and we will strike. :evil/mad :evil/mad :evil/mad :evil/mad :evil/mad

They ARE NOT allowed to bypass seniority! if they have taken EA over buisness savings then it's ONLY on buisness savings! if you's have sufficient changes to trigger a re-sign then that is covered under the way foward agreement and has nothing to do with the EA.

Moving 2 full timers to a diffrent office??? PERMANENTLY??? UNDER WHAT AGREEMENT?????? :mad :evil/mad
staff members may be asked to work in other offices under phase 2 Flex. ask rep or manager to see your agreement on phase 2 (it was agreed locally) but i seriously doubt it allows for the permanent moving of full time staff! I am unaware of any other agreement which allows RM to move staff to diffrent offices. If your collegues don't whant to move get them to quiery this in writing to the DOM, and put in a grievance.

How so?

i may well have, could you explain? :confused can they move people via the conduct code or are you sugesting that they will B&H anyone who objects, i'm sure they would. Even if they can move people via the conduct code don't think they will be able to do it just to achieve projected staffing levels in office.
