It’s a subtle hint what the company’s hierarchy and ultimately the new foreign billionaire owner think of us all. Second class humans to be stomped on and exploited to further Mr Kretinskys already gigantic wealth.
I’m sure it will be fine though, Ward and Walsh are continuing “intense” talks with tea and biscuits so just don’t worry about it. Royal Mail and EP group love us really.

No but the value savings are £41.50 per employee so, £4,150,000 over 100,000 colleagues.

Stamp prices are so high they can't afford their own stamps anymore.

Yeah, but they're not saving that are they. They don't buy the stamps, they print the stamps. So what difference does it make to the company if they give us 1st Class or 2nd Class?....

The only difference I can think of is maybe there's a bit more pressure to deliver the 1st Class letters within a day than there is pressure to deliver 2nd class within 2 or 3 days.

Or maybe there is some agenda to wipe out first class mail for whatever reason.

Royal Mails official reasoning for 2nd class stamps
Our company policy is now to use our second class service when sending anything internally. You will also see that this year we are gifting you with second class stamps in order to support our proposed changes to the Universal Service and ensure that we are protecting the operation at our busiest time of year.

If I recall correctly: the stamps are a tax-free gift in lieu of a taxable cash bonus of equivalent value (hence why you're not meant to sell them). Aside from short-changing staff, does this have some effect on IDS/RMG's tax status?

There's still too much 1C to make the ODM work; so yes, the company says as much...

There'll be loads of surplus 1C stamps floating about well into the new year - right when they want to start rolling the ODM out nationally!
The machine stops.
