Dental cover

Hi,

I’ve just had letters through today saying that my dentist is going private and they’ve sent me a whole list of pricing to go on their Denplan. We are a family of four (16 and 19 year olds - so the oldest now an adult). Can I get a family plan on my bundle does anyone know and does it cover check ups if I’m now having to go privately? Have you found it’s a good value option?

Real pain as in our area there are now no nhs dentists, or at least none taking on any new patients.

What we'll cover
We will cover you and any dependants (if applicable) for treatment while covered under this policy.
By dependant, we mean your:
• Spouse, civil partner or partner living at the same address as you
• Unmarried child up to the age of 25

BUT

Following treatment, we will reimburse you or your dependant’s dental expenses up to the amount shown in the
benefit schedule for the relevant treatment. The amount we pay will never be more than the charges you have
paid.The amounts shown in the benefit schedule apply per insured adult. Insured children share the benefits
between any number added to the policy.
The total sum payable to you or your dependant during any one insurance period cannot exceed the annual
maximum amounts shown in the benefit schedule.

So it seems you buy a single plan at a certain 'level' of cover, the more you pay the higher the benefit, but that benefit is 'shared' between all of you.

My dentist also does Denplan but I've never looked at it in detail as I've got Unum through My Bundle. You have to make sure you claim your annual benefits each time (for routine stuff like check ups and x-rays) otherwise you end up losing money.

I took this out when like you I was dropped by my nhs dentist and over the couple of years I've been using it I've claimed far more than I've paid in . I'm now back with a very good nhs dentist so I've moved my cover level to the lowest level (£1.97 p/w ) which means with 2 check ups and 2 hygenist visits I cover my costs and if I have any other issues I'll be covered for that as well .
It's worth having a good study of the different levels so you get cover that's good for you and your family . From April they've capped my total claim amount to £690 and I don't know if this is a universal thing or they've tightened up on me as I've claimed so much over the last couple of years.
